Description:

Nine year old Riley Philpot has already battled cancer for three years of her short life, and recently discovered a recurrence. The Make-A-Wish Foundation is involved with her, and her only wish is that she receive tons of letters from people praying for her as she comes home from the hospital.

I was thinking in typical swap-bot fashion we could send her ATCs bearing our interpretation of HOPE or STRENGTH or FAITH... your choice... positive images for her to hold on to.... along with a gentle note of encouragement (and prayer, if so inspired)

Here's the swap... two ATCs, as similar as possible, with one of those words incorporated into the design. Be sure the words "Riley's Swap" are on the back of the ATC. You can include her name somewhere on the front if you want to. One ATC goes to Riley, with an encouraging note, the other goes to your swap partner.

I will send the address to participants once partners are assigned.

If you sign up for this swap DO NOT flake. That would be the height of insensitivity. If you don't mean to do it, don't sign up. I will ban anyone that looks at all doubtful to me. If you have unresolved ones in the past 25 swaps please PM me to explain before signing up.

The swap says you have one partner, but remember, you really have two. Riley is your first and most important partner.

Can we send extras too? What kinds of things does she like?

Corky2828 10/23/2009 #

Sorry. Is this someone you know or just someone you heard about it? Either way, it's a beautiful idea. I'll probably just add a few extras of generically cute things.

I'll see if I can find out what she likes. I'm sure that would make her smile. If I can get ideas I will post them here.

I don't know her personally. My friend knows her family.

Question: The ATC has to have the WORD (hope, strength, or faith) on it?

hollycm6 10/28/2009 #

Originally that was my intention. But if you include it on the back in the information, such as "Riley's Hope ATC" above your name, that should be sufficient, if it doesn't work well in your design.

I wish more people would sign up for this.

I agree with @Mistlily ...I would love to see some more support here on Swap-bot for such a great cause. Hopefully more people will sign up by the deadline.

I hope so, too. It seems like an easy thing to do, and there are so many creative people here.

I have pushed the sign up date back just a couple of days. This isn't profile specific, so we can still be getting the cards done now!

Count me in! =D

I ended up NOT using the word in one of my designs, and using it in another.

What is Riley's address? This is what I found after a quick Google search:

Riley Philpot 206 Slaney Loop Road Winterville, NC 28590

Is that what you had, Holly?

I couldn't find anything about her likes, but I found an article that says she's a straight-A student and still loves playing soccer when she can. I'm going to throw in a few extras, like school supplies and soccer stickers...

And, to further help the cause, check out http://www.rileysarmy.com/

There is a facebook group for Riley if anyone wants to join: http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=275294640474&v=wall

hollycm6 11/18/2009 #

Oh, sorry... yes that's what I had!

hollycm6 11/21/2009 #

Did everyone get the address? I had emailed it out, and it's here, too...
