Description:

Fine Art Box

This is a round robin box for those of us who dabble in the "Fine Arts," which Wikipedia defines as "arts that are concerned with a limited number of visual...art forms, including [drawing], painting, sculpture, architecture and printmaking."

The idea is simple: Sign up to receive this box, which will be full of fine art supplies, take what you want from it, replace the same number of items, send to the next person.

The types of items that will be included in the box are: paintbrushes, paints (watercolor, acrylic, oil), drawing paper, watercolor paper, canvas, drawing pens & pencils, sketchbooks, inks, exacto knives, masking fluid, art books, art magazines, maybe even a little piece of your art…all things you already have in your studio.

I’m sorry to be exclusionary, but this is US only due to prohibitively expensive shipping costs to go international. We will be using the USPS Flat Rate Priority Mail box at $8.95. Since this swap does not require you to buy new items, shipping is your only expense.

Here’s how it works:

  1. When you receive your assigned partners, ignore it
  2. When Swap-bot tells you it’s time to send your item, just go ahead and mark it “sent so you don’t get 100 reminders before you even receive the box
  3. When the box gets to you, post it here so we know where it’s at
  4. You now have 3 days with the box – have fun with it, go through it all and take out whatever you think might be useful to you
  5. Now be sure to replace the same number of items you’ve taken. For example, if you snagged a paintbrush, a small set of watercolor paints, a sea sponge, and a package of linen hinging tape, you now have 4 items to replace. The set of watercolors counts as one. Just go through your own stash at home to find replacement items.
  6. If you have more items to replace than you took, that’s totally cool, just be sure they actually fit in the box
  7. Now be sure to make an entry in the enclosed journal. Please write a little bit about yourself and what kind of art you do. At the end, list what you’ve taken and what you’ve left. This is an attempt for us to both get to know each other a bit and to keep each other honest.
  8. The post office offers these boxes for free, so now put everything back in the box and get it ready to send. Please leave the return address as mine. If the PO needs to “return to sender I want it to come to me. It’s my responsibility to figure out what went wrong and get it back on track
  9. Stick on the next “to address with label provided in the box
  10. Please purchase Delivery Confirmation. If the box goes MIA hopefully we can narrow it down with DC.
  11. Post here that you have sent it so we know it’s en route and the next person knows to watch for it
  12. Because we are using a Priority Mail box, it shouldn’t take long to get to each person. So, please stick to the 3-day rule! Less is even better!
  13. Due to the nature of this swap, your assigned partners aren’t actually the ones who will be sending the box to you. So, for rating, please wait for instructions from me once the box has completed its journey.

Please keep in mind that this is not a crafty/scrapbooky swap. Do not include brads, eyelets, fabric, fibers, ribbons, that sort of thing.

Unfortunately, I must say that swappers with a rating of below 4.7 and those without fully completed profiles will be removed, so don’t bother signing up. I'm also undecided on newbies... Email me if you're new before signing up.

Please don’t hesitate to ask me any questions you might have.

I've never done a round robin before. I've always wanted to but this is the first theme that I just couldn't say no to! I can't wait to see what's inside when I get it. I'm already sifting through my stuff to see what goodies I can pass on. <3

ArtsyKira 06/16/2007 #

That's great! I'm excited too! What kind of art do you do? I'm primarily a watercolor artist.

vivica9 06/16/2007 #

I've really gotten into watercolors lately. Mostly abstract things since I still think even my stick figures look disfigured. I'm working on getting into more of the nature side of it. My goal is to get a really good Koi done. Still the most frustrating creature. All in good time I think.

ArtsyKira 06/16/2007 #

I love doing koi! Aren't they beautiful creatures? I do a lot of wildlife. I'd like to try people, but don't have the confidence yet. Someday!

vivica9 06/17/2007 #

Are there any resources you can suggest for helping me out with the koi? I have a few reference pics but they just don't seem to be helping. Maybe I just need some different pics.

ArtsyKira 06/25/2007 #

Vivica - I hope you got my PM about resources.

I've extended sign-up to 6/30 in the hopes of getting a couple more people. I won't extend it again, so we will definitely get started on 7/1. I keep trying to upload a photo of some of the items in the box, but it won't let me.

vivica9 07/ 1/2007 #

Yes, Artsykira it is a great site. Can't wait to see what's in the box.

ArtsyKira 07/ 8/2007 #

I just tracked the package on USPS.com and it has arrived in AK. Elizabeth should have it Monday, I hope!

yarnpunk 07/ 9/2007 #

I'm off to check my mailbox! Can't wait!!!!

yarnpunk 07/10/2007 #

Ok, it wasn't in my mailbox on monday- but it was today! I've chosen 6 items and hope that my replacement items will all fit into the box. If all goes well, I'll get it in the mail tomarrow. Thanks for hosting a great swap!

Box was sent to Sugene on Friday. DC# 0306 0320 0001 4928 5476

fluxions 07/17/2007 #

I picked up the box today! I have a bunch of replacement stuff ready to go, but I'm still deciding what I want to take. I'll post again when I mail it!

fluxions 07/19/2007 #

I mailed the box today. I don't have the name of the person I sent it to, but it is on its way to POB 464, Alamo, CA. Delivery Confirmation #: 0309 2400 0001 5563 3000

Thanks!

fluxions 07/20/2007 #

One last thing! I took the embossing powder at the last minute when I was taping the box up, and I think I forgot to write it in the book. So if anyone gets the box and wonders what happened to it, I took it. Sorry about that oversight.

fluxions 07/27/2007 #

Oops! I was one digit off when I posted the DC#. Here is the correct one: 0306 2400 0001 5563 3000

Status said that it was delivered on July 24. I'm surprised and annoyed that it took so long -- that's more than the 2-3 days that priority mail is supposed to take and within the same state no less.

ArtsyKira 07/27/2007 #

Just be happy it got there at all! :)

shoppingformykids 08/ 1/2007 #

I got the box today! UPS delivered it ... fun fun fun, and the notebook is great, getting full. I'm going to look at everyone's websites/blogs tonight.

I'll take a photo, and post it later . . .

Hi all, I want to apologize for not posting when I received the box or when I shipped it. I was on vacation when it arrived and we had an emergency with our kitty. All is good now. I see that Laurie already received the box which is great! I hope she finds some great things in there. I enjoyed looking through the notebook and looking at the websites and blogs of the people who already had the box. This was a great swap! Thanks Kira!! KV

ArtsyKira 08/ 3/2007 #

This swap is going great! I'm so grateful to you guys for shipping on time and communicating on this page. I'm hosting a similar swap (general craft/art supples) with a larger group and the box has gone AWOL twice. So frustrating!

I can't wait to see what's in the box when it comes home! I'll definitely post pics on my blog.

Oooo where's the box now? The last DC # posted is the one that was delivered on July 24. Who's got the box? where's the box, where'stheboxwherestheboxwheresthebox? Sorry, kind of goofy at the moment. :D

shoppingformykids 08/ 6/2007 #

I sent the box out today! It should arrive on Wednesday . . . !

shoppingformykids 08/ 8/2007 #

Okay, here's the DC#: 9101150134711927607997 . . . and here's the link to my photo of the goodies in the box! http://flickr.com/photos/51458695@N00/978302804/

Okay, just checked the number, and it said that they attempted to deliver the package, and now it's at the post office, waiting . . .

Laurie

vivica9 08/ 9/2007 #

Sorry, I was at work when they tried to deliver it. I filled out the silly form that they leave to try and get them to just leave it at the house... if they won't do that then it will be Sat before I can get it from the PO.

ArtsyKira 08/10/2007 #

Laurie - thanks for posting that pic! It's fun to see what's been added to the box.

vivica9 08/10/2007 #

Hey guess what? My mail carrier CAN follow simple instructions. I wonder some times. I came home from a rough day at work to find a very loved package on my steps. I have sorted through all of the treasures and I plan on hitting the PO tomorrow to send it on it's way back to it's momma.

shoppingformykids 08/12/2007 #

Yay! I'm so glad to know it'll be on its way home soon.

This has been a great swap . . .

laurie

ArtsyKira 08/12/2007 #

Hooray! I can't wait to get the box back and see what treasures await me! hee hee!

vivica9 08/12/2007 #

I didn't get the box out yesterday as planned. The mechanic was holding it hostage while my car was in the shop (ok, more like my hubby wouldn't let me into the car while it was in his shop) So... it will be off tomorrow. I'll get the DC # up asap.

vivica9 08/15/2007 #

Good news bad news guys~ I got the package out yesterday :D I told the po to use a DC # I paid for it even... I didn't realize that they didn't do it until I got home from work. I called the po today about it and was told that if I didn't notice that they didn't do it right then it's my fault and there's nothing they can do. :( I feel like a real idiot. :(

ArtsyKira 08/16/2007 #

Don't you love the P.O.? They screw up but somehow it's your fault. Well, we'll hope they at least get it to the right address. :) Thanks for letting us know Vivica!

ArtsyKira 08/17/2007 #

Well, no worries at all! The box arrived today and was in good shape. Lots of fun new things to try out. And I loved reading everyone's entries in the journal.

Thank you so much for participating in this great swap! Please remember to rate your "partner" with a 5, as everyone did exactly as they were supposed to.

Thanks again! Kira
