Description:

Journaling is so much fun. It's too bad that you are generally the only audience...until now!

Don't worry! You won't be asked to reveal your innermost secrets or relive the dream where you show up to a job interview wearing nothing but your underwear.

Simply visit this very helpful website and choose about 20-30 topics to journal about and share. It sounds like a lot, but many of the topics will have a smaller response. You can't really spend a long time discussing 5 things in your fridge or your favorite type of pizza.

However, don't keep all your journal entries short and sweet. This is a good group, so no one will be made fun of, heckled or asked to leave due to journal content. So keep that in mind when selecting your journal prompts.

Feel free to get creative with embellishments, sketches and anything else you want to make your journal beautiful.

The journal itself should be presented nicely. One suggestion is to make a paper bag scrap book since they are lots of fun, provide lots of space for creativity and relatively light to mail. Another suggestion might be a smaller altered journal. If it is too big, you might wind up with lots of lonely, blank pages.

Aside from the journal, include 5 little things related to your journal entries. For instance if you discussed liking naps you might include a cute sleep mask. If you mention how much you love rainy days, a weather related stamp would work. Did you talk about vacations or places you love to visit? Include a postcard and/or a pressed penny. If you talked about your favorite craft you could include something handmade. The possibilities are endless.

This is a swap that has to be sender's choice no matter what!

I want to stress that it should be a quality journal that you send. Everyone knows quality and effort when they see it. Quality also applies to the 5 items you send. Don't just send 5 sticker flakes of things you like. Send something you would love to receive or don't sign up at all.

There is a long space for signing up and sending so no one feels pressured to complete a whole journal in just a week or two. It is a project you can start to work on right away before partners are assigned. It is also a project that doesn't have to be completed all at once, so you can work on it here and there as long as it is sent on time.

I hope everyone enjoys this swap and has fun with it. If there are any questions, please feel free to PM me and I will be happy to help. I will be checking profiles.

You can see an example of a paper bag scrap book on my flickr page. It was my first one, but I had lots of fun with it. Also, check out the one that @RyeRye has on her flickr. She made it for a Christmas journal swap.

This looks like a great idea, even though it is lots of work. Hope I have time to do it!

I hope you get to do it, too, Deb. I can't wait to get started on mine! I already picked out most of my prompts to write about!

what are the dimensions on that paper bag? I"ve made them out of lunch bags but yours look bigger. Like reg. grocery brown bag????

grimmlynn 09/23/2009 #

I used lunch bags for mine, too. I think all the ribbons, etc. give it that big look.

Here is a LINK that will explain more about the paper bag scrap books. I am sorry I didn't find it sooner!

What a fab idea for a swap and a brilliant link thanks. I am going to play along with you but as I am in the UK, I will keep my finished product. It will be lovely. Thanks again for the idea.

I have never swapped a journal with anyone before, and have limited book-making experience, but the paper bag journals have so inspired me, and I really want to reach out in swaps like this now. I am so excited about this swap!

I'm a little unclear as to whether we are supposed to Make our journal or if we can use a ready made one for our journaling?

grimmlynn 10/ 1/2009 #

You can do either.

The journal itself should be presented nicely. One suggestion is to make a paper bag scrap book since they are lots of fun, provide lots of space for creativity and relatively light to mail. Another suggestion might be a smaller altered journal. If it is too big, you might wind up with lots of lonely, blank pages.

So, as long as it is good quality, however you choose to present your journal is entirely up to you. :-D

Have fun everyone!

I love my journal so much that I don't want to send it to anyone!

grimmlynn 10/14/2009 #

I know! Maybe we can set up a private swap to barter our journals back from our partners...LOL!
