Description:

You know what I mean by that, don't you - those long-forgotten crafts that have disappeared into the mists of time so that nobody thinks about them nowadays:

  • How do you dream a cloud?
  • How do you tame a dragon?
  • How do you weave a spider-web?
  • How do you talk to a butterfly?
  • How do you polish the stars?
  • How do you ride a blizzard?

You have got some of that secret knowledge, I know that for sure, and it is very selfish from you to keep it for yourself! What is it you know to do? What is your forgotten craft?

So as a member of this group, you please pass your knowledge, whatever it may be, on by sharing it with your group-sisters and -brothers as it is your duty.

You have time until 19th of October to get accustomed to that duty, and then you have up until 16th of November to face it by creating a mini-zine you sent to five of your group-partners. Since this is a group-swap, I will allow anybody that is member of this group - there shouldn't be flakers, should there, and if there are any I will angel, probably with a second mini-zine "How to Bring the Wrath of the Zine-Gods Upon Flakers"?

So share and beware!

Sounds fantastic (in all senses of the word)! I have to join this one. Just one question, does the mini-zine have to be the folded-down-from-one-sheet format, or can it be bound differently? (And if so, is there a minimum or maximum size?)

Really looking forward to this swap - I have so many ideas, already...!

You don't have to fold just one paper - if you have a very special craft that is very difficult to teach and you need more than the 8 pages you get from folding one sheet, you can make a zine with more pages than the 8 by using more than one sheet. (You just bind it somehow rather than just folding it.)

The overall page-size required is what you get when you fold this one sheet into 8 pages. (I don't know what DIN that is...) If you want to make a larger one - well, I don't think that someone objects as long as you know that only mini-zine-size is required. And if you know too much and your knowledge is too important to fit into mini-zine-size - what shall you do? ;-)

such a good idea, now I'll have to think of a special craft I may know about..

I absolutely love this idea! But I'm just starting with zines and I'm a little nervous.

Watching for now, but I don't think I'll be able to pass it up!

Awesome idea but I can't join as I'm too busy :( Helping out with my partner's thesis and trying to finish a larger zine, ATCs and other stuff. Such an awesome idea I'm sorry I can't devote my time to it.

My zine is made and sitting in the computer and ready to be printed. So what happened yesterday? The printer threw a fit and announced that a) it was out of colour ink and b) it had a paper jam. Said paper jam has been cleared, but it still is sitting there blinking and insisting that it can't possibly print. Diva.

AND I created the zine in a little-known design program called PagePlus, so it's not as if I could just copy the files and go print them off at the university's print shop across campus. Grrrr.

Ah well, I've still got a bit of time to sort this out and get them physically in-hand....

Update: got a good printout, so now I just have to run off five colour copies and put them together. Embarrassingly enough, since I'm generally the kind of person who gets her stuff out the day after partners are assigned.... I got my first zine from this swap yesterday!

A big thanks to earlybird moominbrooke, whose name is as magical as her zine.... and a promise to the rest of you that my zine is coming in under the deadline and will be worth it.

Hugs, Judith

YEAH! Printed, assembled, finished, and going to the post office TODAY! Will hit 'sent' when they are actually in the mail. Thanks for your patience, my dear partners - your Secret Craft Zine should be arriving before Christmas.

(looks guiltily at the date and resolves never to do a swap that depends so heavily on her electronic media again.... at least one's inkpad doesn't fail one at the last moment!)
