Even though this is called 'Secret Santa' we do say in our package who we are, right? I mean, how else do we get rated for such a cool swap? Just checkinggg...!

It would be kinda cool to just add a little note with "this is your secret santa, hope you like it" or something, and since there will only be one partner they'll know who to rate straight away, right ?

By all means put a note in your gift. I think part of the fun of this swap is waiting to see just what your partner sends... I will have to see if I can get to the proper rating and level of mail swaps by then. While I understand the need for such rules it really sucks for us newbies. I have been looking at swaps for a while now, deciding if I am ready to sign up for one or two and a lot of them are off limits to me. bummer

I agree KizzyMama. i have just joined also and have only completed one swap. when i clicked on this one, i was so hopping it wasnt limited to veteran swappers :o(

I'm in agreement with KizzyMamo too - the swaps I really want to join aren't open to me...I guess I just have to be patient and put in my time, but some of these just look like so much fun!

i am a newbie to and would love to join in this one, i have done several of these over the years in other groups and totally enjoyed it, i have gotten some nice stuff and its fun to shop for other people

I would also like to do this for my mother...she loves all things sparkly, Birds, but especially hummingbirds, butterflies, flowers (especially orchids because she raises them) and nature both plants and animals.

A note for the newbies - We were all new once and we all had to pay our dues (so to speak) before we could join some of the swaps. Once you have been "flaked" on as many times as I have, you really appreciate the swap coordinators who lay down strict rules and hold all swappers to those rules.

On flakers, for example, I was flaked on last year in a Secret Santa swap, a filled stocking swap, a filled Pringles can swap, plus a few others. I love Swap-bot and keep trying, but you gotta know that anytime of the year is a good time for those low-lifes who want something for nothing. So for the stricter rules, I appaud!!! Way to go, BassetMama.

To all the newbies: there is a Newbies group with plenty of great newbie friendly swaps and nice people ready to give you good advice. Look for it and join!

I think I´ll join the swap, but I am not sure about the mail delivery...it may take three weeks from Europe to US or Australia...I wouldn´t want to disappoint my SP if the package will come after Christmas Eve..

On Oct. 23, one of my groups received the following message from a member in the UK.

"The postal strike in uk is continuing and escalating. There are still deliveries and collections on some days but the backlog is getting worse and there is talk that it could go on until Christmas."

We must keep this in mind as we make plans for mailing our packages.

I have to agree with some of the comments I'm reading. Getting a newbie doesn't always mean they're going to be less generous, but that's not always the case. Speaking from personal experience now I can say it's VERY disheartening to give it your all in a gift exchange swap and have a newbie give to craps just so they can get (what they hope to be) a good rating.

The good news is you won't be on the bottom of the totem pole forever and as you gain more ratings the good swappers will be appreciated for the kindness and extra thought and the crappy swappers will be left behind.

But there's also the misc. swappers who are always generous with goodies and in the end it all balances out. A bad swap will be over shadowed by the great ones any day. It's an excellent swap idea and partner who goes with it that makes the swap, new or old to the site.

What about us Newbies? I do hope we wont be left out in the cold. I'd love to join and will fulfill all needs.
