Description:

Round One of this swap went so well, and everyone had such a good time picking out books and receiving a big box in return.....so here's round 2!

For this swap, you will get a rather largish box (with room for at least 15 or so used paperback books), and you will make a trip to whatever venue you prefer for used books (or your own "already read'' bookshelf)......look for books you think your partner would enjoy (please pick books that aren't damaged....water damage, mold, ripped/missing/loose pages, spine damage, etc. Used condition is expected, but let's not send out obviously damaged sub-par books), and then pack up the box and ship to your swap pal by Media Mail. (Swap restricted to US only due to Media Mail availability and postage expense).

Please use Delivery Confirmation on your package. DC provides proof of mailing (date and time) AND the tracking number makes it easier for the postal system to trace and find stray packages. Media Mail does take just a bit longer because MM is only loaded on trucks when there is extra room.....so a DC# will also let your partner know when the box is coming so he/she knows when to start stalking their mail man. :) I have received some MM packages extremely quickly so delivery time can be varied. A DC# is a way to ensure that your partner knows his/her package is on its way, even if the post office takes extra time to actually deliver it.

Have fun picking out some really cool books for your swap pal.....don't just grab a handful of old harlequins out of a 10 cent bin and call it done. Make it fun for yourself.....and your partner! Be discriminating!

PLEASE don't sign up for this swap if you are not absolutely sure you can send out a package on time. PLEASE don't flake out on your partner. PLEASE by all means join us if you LOVE to read, and LOVE finding great books at bargain prices, and if you LOVE to share books with friends!

Swappers who have received any unexplained 1 ratings for no-sends in the past 6 months will be removed from the swap before partners are assigned. If you have some low ratings but can explain....message me and we can talk about it. Please no newbies.....only swappers with ratings for package swaps (email and postcard swaps don't count).

When you sign up, please post a message to the swap thread giving some preferences as to genre, or other general likes/dislikes. BUT, since specific titles or types of books might not be available, your partner is not required to send you any specific books or types of book.

Any questions?? Message me!

social history (history of foods, clothes, social norms, etc.), historical fiction, science fiction, fantasy, world lit, true crime, mysteries.

renees 07/20/2009 #

this was fun last time! I mostly read fantasy and sci fi. Anything in those genres would be awesome. Also any craft books, maybe a cookbook and some history stuff too.

mikkisgrmom 07/20/2009 #

I like historical fiction mostly.

Hello! I'm excited to do this swap again. I would really love to not receive romance novels. My reading preference is generally more "serious" fiction, novels by female authors (but not so much chick lit, although I would prefer that to romance novels), and non-fiction. I really like to read books that other people have read and enjoyed. Thanks!

AuntDianna 07/20/2009 #

This sounds like fun, count me in. I like to read true crime, female authors, any craft books, local cookbooks(the fundraiser kind that churchs or fire companies sell), thrillers, and just about anything else.

LomoLover 07/20/2009 #

I'd love to join but am worried about finding a big enough box. Can we use two medium boxes to send; also if we find a good hardback book can we send that instead of a paperback (ex. 12 paperbacks, 3 hardbacks = 15 books)? Thanks!

renees 07/20/2009 #

i sent hardbacks in my swap and it wasn't a problem. The box I sent mine in last time wasn't that big at all, you can buy them at the PO or places like that, I got mine in a readypost box, maybe 8x10x12

JP 07/20/2009 #

You don't have to send only paperbacks --- any kind of book is fine, as long as it is not damaged (no water damage, loose pages, split spines, etc.....any used books in good condition)

Lomolover -- your local post office should sell boxes large enough. They cost about $2. Or local grocery stores often have empty boxes to give away. You can send two separate boxes if you want....but it might cost you a bit more in postage to send that way.

And everyone please remember -- when you ship Media Mail you can't include anything but books in the box. No notes. No extras. Nothing except the books. Media Mail packages are subject to inspection -- and if there is anything non-media in the box, they will charge regular package rates for the package.

I read just about anything, with the exception of romance novels. Please no romance novels. I enjoy mysteries, ghost stories, supernatural thrillers, true crime, historical fiction (Real historical fiction, not romance books dressed up like it... no bodice rippers please), and contemporary literature that isn't totally depressing.

ChelelosGirl 07/21/2009 #

Now that I know I can afford this one, lol, I would love to receive any kind of "chick lit" books, beach book types that are easy and fun reads, and anything that looks like it might be funny. Also any kind of craft book!

LomoLover 07/24/2009 #

Thanks for the information about hardback books and finding a box. I'll definitely join :) I read mostly fiction, no romance unless it's just a small part of the book and not the entire plot. I'm also not too fond of classics or books on religion unless it's satire. I love thrillers, horror, contemporary fiction, mysteries, books that are really bizarre, short stories, satire, books that will make you laugh. I wouldn't mind a couple of sci-fi books, just not an entire box full. I also like art books, postcard books, and anything concerning fashion.

Neener1430 07/26/2009 #

About the only thing I really don't read are romance and sci-fi. Trying to read about1st ladies, so any like that would be appreciated. You can also check my profile for other ideas. And just a note to let everyone know that you can go to USPS.com and order all sizes of envelopes and boxes for free, they will also deliver to you free of charge. They are the priority rate, so I usually wrap in brown paper to save on the shipping. But the cost of paper and tape vs. paying each time for a box definitely lets you come out ahead.

It would be really nice if a Newbie could join in on this since I have over 600 books at my house packed in boxes in the extra bedroom that I have already read and have no idea what to do with. But I understand. For what it is worth I am new to Swapbot but not swaps. I have swapped several times on Crochetville.

Mommy2Blaze 07/27/2009 #

Thanks for allowing me to join. I am not a flaker I promise. but I do love to read. I don't do sci fi or fantasy though. I love Christian fiction if anyone has any. Anything from fiction, to nofiction, biographies. Cookbooks are an alltime favorite. Craft books crochet really anything.

jcm716 07/31/2009 #

Hi, I prefer to read non-fiction (any non-fiction) such as true crime, biographies, history books on the presidents, law. I do not care for fiction or romance books

crispy 08/ 3/2009 #

At the moment, the only books I'm not really interested in are romance novels, religious books, and science fiction. I would like to receive some classics, best sellers, memiors (interesting ones of people with really messed up lives ...kinda like Augusten Burroughs... ), books about California (I love my state), Queer lit (ones with gay characters as opposed to books discussing what it means to be gay), the ethical slut, only really interested in crafting books about beading with patterns. Wouldn't mind books of photos either. Would totally love photo books of different states and their natural beauty, cities and their large buildings, trees, flowers. Humor... yeah. I'm not hard to please, really.

open to receive things not listed here, of course. questions? feel free to ask!

FabulouslyTarnished 08/ 3/2009 #

I love swapping for books! My favorite genres are:

  • Time Travel Romance

  • Fantasy/Magic/Wizards

  • Teen Vampires

JP 08/ 3/2009 #

Just remember -- since this is a thrift store/used book shop sorta swap, your partner will do their best to send books related to the genres you like. BUT, don't give lower ratings if the books don't match your preferences completely. Used book selection is limited, and your partner can only send what they have available to buy used at their local shop, or what they have on their own bookshelves. If your box includes a book or two you don't want to read, just set them aside and trade it again in the next round! :o) Or give a different genre a chance -- you might be surprised!

I like mysteries (especially British mysteries and those written by women), modern chick lit, fiction, animal books & biographies a lot.

I sometimes read sci fi, fantasy, true crime, historical fiction, non-fiction & romance but am more picky with these genres.

I do not care for horror, supernatural or westerns at all.

knbquilts 08/ 6/2009 #

I love to read. Especially mystery or thrillers, true crime. Any craft books, cook books homesteading, farming gardening. I am not too picky.

SwankDevotchka 08/ 7/2009 #

Teen fiction, my favorite author is Francesca Lia Block. Chick lit, Devil wears Prada kind of stuff. Historical fiction, especially about other countries (like Lisa See).Vampires, fantasy, craft books about anything especially kitchy ones from the 70’s. Cookbooks, not for the microwave though (I don’t have one!).

I’m not big on mysteries, or horrors. No Stephen King, Michael Crichton, or Clive Owen. No romance novels with fabio look-a-likes on the cover! Hahaha!

I’m just trying to make it easy on my partner, I’m not very picky, I do love, love, LOVE to read.

trvLjunkie 08/ 8/2009 #

JP 09/ 2/2009 #

The deadline is coming up fast and there are still a lot of unsent packages -- let's get those boxes in the mail quickly!! :o) your partner might run out of things to read before it arrives! Oh, the horror of it!! :o)

Mommy2Blaze 09/ 4/2009 #
