Description:

A quiltie is a small quilt suitable for hanging on a wall. I have seen them as small as 6" square, so work with whatever size you are comfortable with.

You will have one partner for this swap. You will make your partner a quiltie in whatever manner you choose. You can piece it, fuse it, use a whole piece of cloth and do lots of stitching, bead it, embroider it, or do something I haven't even thought of . . . whatever you choose.

Before you start, please read your partner's profile and try to create something that you think she will love to receive.

Because it is summer and everyone does vacationing and gardening, etc. I am giving you lots of time to complete your quiltie after your partners are assigned.

I want this to be a truly enjoyable swap (in our truly enjoyable group!), so have fun with this!

I love it!!! Do you by any chance know where we could find some freebie patterns for quilties?

TerryF 06/17/2009 #

Actually, any quilt block can be made into a quiltie. There are tons of "free quilt block patterns" on the net - just google it.

marquettegirl 06/17/2009 #

That's true! I got a darling one from someone in a trade that was a quiltblock in red and green with buttons in the corners and the center and it was darling.

And you can google "quilties" too, and look them up on flicker for examples.

DebP 06/17/2009 #

So, basically a miniature quilt, right?

spinjenny 06/18/2009 #

You mentioned they can be as small as 6" square, but is there a maximum?

ladydy5 06/19/2009 #

I'll start at 12" but probably end up with a 6 inch :)

lisaeburg 06/19/2009 #

i'm watching and waiting.

So good to see that list of friends on participants.

A useful link? I don't know whether all the techniques mentioned in it would be acceptable in this swap, but if not, Charline can tell us or just delete this post. :-)

DebP 06/23/2009 #

That was a good link. Thanks. I wonder if we should all make our quilties the same size so we can maybe assemble them together like a small book. I know we only have 1 partner for this swap, but if there was maybe going to be a series of these swaps, wouldn't it be nice to have everything the same? Just a thought.

marquettegirl 06/29/2009 #

DebP - I wasn't planning on doing a series of these swaps, so I don't think it's necessary to size them all the same. Some people are more comfortable doing something 6" square, while others might prefer a 10" x 12" format. However, I think your suggestion is a dynamite idea and it would be very cool to have a little book of quilties made by various partners. If you want to do that in the future, I would be up for joining it.

I like Deb's idea too.

Summer Brights I guess says it all as far as fabric choice. Right?
