Steampunk ATC

i just saw the movie Castle in the Sky and it really inspired me.i love the theme. unfortunately, i try to keep away from atcs because once i get started.. i know i'll never ever ever stop and eventually it will consume my life like swap-bot already has... lol

I love this theme! But I'm going to have to wrap my head around how to execute, and if I can come up with some good ideas I'll sign up...thanks for putting the sign up cut-off out there a couple weeks!

Feel free to recommend any steampunk-type novels of graphic novels, all ye out there...I like China Mieville's style...

I have read China Mieville's work and own Castle in the Sky. Both are excellent works. Here are some others:

i'm reading The Difference Engine right now! and the latest issue of WIRED magazine (says Rocket Boom on the cover) has a few pages of gorgeous steampunk rayguns...

so, i was kinda thinking tank girl & barbarella... am i WAY out of line here??

Some more thoughts: steam driven, The Prestige, googles, mad scientists, First Man in the Moon, that one Smashing Pumpkins video, dirigibles, Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow, old radio serials, pulp fiction, Victorian England, radio tubes, silent films, Wild Wild West (somewhat)

What was not there: personal computers, cell phones, internet, TiVo, Satelites, lunar landers, video games, CDs, DVDs, modern weaponry, very slick jump suits

I so look forward to this swap,I am a huge Jules Verne Fan. The disney 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea movie is my favorite movie and is well worth the watch. A modern movie that has a steam punk feel is the Prestige. There is also Steam Punk a manga by Kia Assimiya. And my husbands favorite movie "The Rocketeer"

Correction "Steam Detectives" by Kia Assimiya - the basic premise being that the internal combustion engine was never developed so everything is steam powered. Other Japanese Anime with steam punk feel include "Steam Boy" and "Howl's Moving Castle".

Here's an idea, if Sherlock Homes used gadgets like James Bond what would they be?
