NYUP: World's Indigenous Peoples Day

International Day of the World’s Indigenous Peoples is celebrated August 9th, to advocate for the inclusion, recognition, and participation of indigenous peoples so that they can live autonomously and freely pursue their common goals. Here are some facts about indigenous peoples:

• There are over 400 million indigenous people spread across 90 different countries and representing over 5,000 different cultures.
•Indigenous peoples represent 6.2% of the world’s population but account for over 16% of the world’s population living in poverty.
•It’s estimated that one Indigenous language dies every two weeks.
•Research shows that where Indigenous groups have control of the land, forests and biodiversity flourish.

For this swap, you will send one postcard naked and stamped to your partner featuring an indigenous person/group on the front. Note is sender's choice, but include more than a sentence or two.
