Description:

Did you know that you can you regular cleaning bleach instead of ink to rubber stamp?? I'm sure that you can find several tutorials online but basically, I just dab a paper towel with bleach (I used Clorox) and then blot (tap) it on the rubber surface of my stamp. Then, simply stamp as "normal" onto solid colored card stock. Let dry and embellish the stamped image into an ATC. * I've personally found better results on non textured cardstock.

The end result bleaches the paper making the image itself lighter than the original color of cardstock. I made the example shown for a random ATC swap earlier today and I'm hooked on the technique. You may want to play around with it. Different card stock may respond with different shades. I have some that turned out pretty white and others that are just lighter shades of the original color. I also found that starting with a darker color card stock gave better and more dramatic results.

Please be careful using bleach around children or pets and make sure you are in a well ventilated area!! (I got quite a headache, lol) If you are bothered or sensitive to bleach or even the smell of it this is obviously NOT a swap for you!!

This swap is for ONE ATC, to ONE partner. If there is a high response, this might turn into a more regular swap and I'll break it up into themes... but for now its:

  • "SENDERS CHOICE"
  • International (Let me know if I'm wrong and this isn't allowed.)
  • Rated on at least 5 swaps.
  • No rating under 4.7.
  • No recent 1s or 3s.

Please put forth your BEST creative effort and send on time!!

I hope that you will enjoying trying out this technique, even if you have seen it or used it before.

I'm always looking for new techniques, I love this one, but have only tired with fabric. I never thought to use card stock. Thank you for hosting, I 'm definitely joining!

Packing tape transfers?! Do tell! I'm joining this swap for sure!!

ZippedShut 04/15/2009 #

This sounds like a lot of fun!! I have only done bleach stenciling on fabrics. This will be something new to try out.

What is "packing tape transfers"????

plaidgiraffe 04/17/2009 #

I'll create another swap, for the packing tape transfer!! Watch for it.

I've personally found better results with this bleach techinque on non textured cardstock.

Hi all I'm a newbie (not to ATC's but to Swap-Bot) so hope I can play along with this. I love this technique!

Sarita 04/25/2009 #

Bleach does not affect the rubber part of the stamps?

plaidgiraffe 04/25/2009 #

You need to clean your rubber stamp right after you use it and your not soaking it in bleach, so it should be fine. I havent had any problems, myself, but cheaper (like dollar stamps) might not hold up.

Susi 04/28/2009 #

that's a beautiful example you have!

plaidgiraffe 04/28/2009 #

Susi: Thank you for the compliment on my "sample" ATC.

Everyone else: I am so excited because this is only the 2nd swap I've hosted on this site and if you'll take a look, we're currently #8, in the top 10!!! Partners will be assigned tomorrow night (because its back to work for me after an almost 2 wk vacation!!) I'm so excited. I hope all participants are to.
