Description:

Howdy swappers.

I love owls, and I know there are a few of you who share this love. I looked around and didn't see a non-ATC owl swap, so I thought I would start one! This is my first time hosting a swap, so let's make it good!

For this swap you will have one partner. You will send them three owl related items:

  1. A handmade owl item. It can be made of anything except paper -- fabric, fleece, perler beads (maybe a keychain), regular beads, embroidery floss (think cross stitch), fimo, linoleum (maybe make a rubber stamp), use your imagination!

  2. Paper owl item(s). This can be handmade or store bought. You can make ATCs (make sure it's not just a sticker on paper - put some thought and care into it), maybe a few notecards (at least 3, including envelopes, to make a mini-set), sticker set, postcards (naked or in an envie - ask your partner to see which they prefer), etc.

  3. Thrift store/regular store/etsy.com owl. Go to your local thrift store (second hand shop), regular store, or online at etsy.com and scrounge around (or scrounge around your personal collection, lol). It may take one or two visits to different ones, but you'll find something with an owl on it or an owl figurine. Snatch it up and mail it to your partner. It could be a figure, it could be a small painting, it could be any item that has an owl on it somehow.

For an extra challenge and a heart, you could find the owl item from the thrift store FIRST. Then, make the other two items to match the thrift-store item (in looks, color, shape, etc.). Or you could just read your partner's profile and add any little extras you think they would enjoy.

Swap is not profile specific, so you can start making and purchasing all your items now!

OK. On to the rules:

  1. Newbies are welcome, sorta. You must have a well filled out profile. You have to have at least five swaps sent out (can be email swaps). I will use my discretion, and ban anyone I don't feel right about.

  2. All swappers should have a 4.8 or above. No recent no sends. Anything lower than a 5 should have an explanation.

  3. I decided to make it international. With the nature of the items, they could weight next to nothing. If you get a partner overseas and don't want to pay too much postage, don't send them a paperweight, lol. If too many people think that it should be US only, then I'll change it and maybe someone else can host an international swap.

Everything is up for discussion, just PM me and we'll talk things over. I will be checking everyone's profile and banning anyone who doesn't meet the swap qualifications and hasn't PMed me.

Swapping is supposed to be fun, so let's make it fun! No flaking, or I will add you to my personal naughty list, and report you to the correct channels. I can angel for a few people, two or three, but let's hope that's not necessary.
Let's have a hoot!

Awesome idea but for number three to be possible I would need a longer send by date.

mimmeli 04/ 3/2009 #

I was just wondering what thrift store is?

simindy 04/ 3/2009 #

Thrift stores are like ... stores where things that have previously been used are sold.

simindy 04/ 3/2009 #

magicjessnrach - you're right. I changed the send by date to be one month after the sign-up date. I think that should give everyone enough time.

On my watchlist! Have to check my thriftstores first 8)

@mimmeli in Germany, thrift stores are usually called Second-Hand Shop. Often thrift stores operate without profit, but the money goes to a certain charity and it's mostly run by volunteers.

@simindy Unfortunately, we don't have any thrift stores nearby, but there is one that I can reach by bus. I'll have to see if I can get there and they have anything owly. So I'll be watching for now.

Thanks for explaining that to me.....hope can find something sweet then.......swan, I got the same problem, no such store any close to where I live.

@simindy for the paper items, could it also be a puzzle or postcards, like that?

simindy 04/ 4/2009 #

@mimmeli and @Swan - Hmm ... as far as the owl figurine - I've never seen any in regular stores? Have you guys? Should I change it to say "store bought"? I know I've seen some on etsy, but I'm not sure if you swappers want to have to go through shipping and all that, it would bring costs way up. I'll change that bit anyway, just in case.

@mimmeli - Yup, as long as it's made of some sort of paper or cardboard!

@simindy thanks for your help, guess I could find something, but better to make sure before joining. Hope can find something good^^.
