Description:

Ahhhh, the Minotaur, AKA Μινώταυρος. As Virgil wrote, and I agree heartily with, "The lower part a beast, a man above / The monument of their polluted love."

Except... do I?

The Minotaur is a beast with the head and tail of a bull, and the... torso? Rest of body? Of a man. So I don't know what kind of jack*** thinks a head goes on the bottom half, but Virgil is in that category.

Anyway, "Minotaur" was once a title given to a creature named Asterion, who lived in the middle of a big ol' maze called the labyrinth and to whom youths were sacrificed. He was eventually slain by Theseus, who was aided by the maiden Ariadne with her thread (to help him find his way out of the maze), who he then abandoned on an island. Also, Theseus's dad killed himself and then he became king. But don't try to interpret that or anything, we're just focusing on the half-bull thing, whose name can now be applied to any monster meeting the bull/person criteria.

Please create one ATC for one partner featuring a minotaur or the Minotaur. You can be as creative as you like and put as much of your own twist on it as you'd like, as long as it's identifiable as a minotaur.

If you want an extra challenge, incorporate a thread, string, or piece of yarn into your ATC in memory of Ariadne -- but this is not required, just an idea!

The Greek Mythology series will continue monthly, so watch for the next in March! Until next time...

Rules

  • 1 ATC for 1 partner, extras not necessary but not actively discouraged

  • standard ATC rules: 2.5" x 3.5", sturdy backing, send in a protective sleeve. Please include the swap name, your username, and the date on the back. I think it's also fun to sign them/receive them signed, but this is not required. If you do not sign, please write your first name and last initial as well.

  • make sure the minotaur is hand-made by you in some way. Any medium is acceptable, and the background can include collage elements, be totally hand-drawn, etc. Please take your time and make something you'd like to receive!

  • portrait or landscape orientation are both acceptable

  • 4 weeks to create and send, though because this is not profile-based, you may start early and ship it out once you have your partner!

  • please rate a 5 if the card you receive meets the requirements. Give a heart if you love it.

  • if there is any chance your envelope exceeds one ounce or will get classed as a small first class package, please make sure you add sufficient postage. Similarly, please make sure you pay the non-machinable surcharge if your envelope is uneven or rigid (you won't be rated on this, but the best chance the card will arrive safely is worth it!)

  • If you will be late for any reason, please message both me and your partner as soon as you can. MM&L always angels for flaked swaps -- we've only had one flake, and we don't speak of the Dark Times. If you have an emergency, take care of it and we'll work it out after.

Please message me directly with any questions. Happy swapping!
