Newbie ATC artists welcome! You do not need to have any experience making ATC's in order to join this swap. Here's your chance to try them for the first time or practicing your ATC skills without the worry of being judged.

Seasoned ATC swappers, please be aware that the quality of ATC you send out may not match the quality received, but it is a great chance for new artists to benefit from seasoned swappers & real life examples. You may even pass on some tips or techniques if you like.

An artist trading card (or ATC for short) is a small, original piece of art created with the intention of swapping or trading it with another artist. The one rule an artist trading card must adhere to is the size 2.5" x 3.5".

The front of an ATC, is where the artist creates an original work to showcase their art. The back of an ATC is where the artist puts their name, contact details, title of the ATC, & the date it was created.

Artist trading cards can be made in any media including DRY MEDIA (pencils, pens, markers, etc), WET MEDIA (watercolor, acrylic paints, etc), PAPER MEDIA (collage paper, ephemera, etc.) or MIXED MEDIA (a combination of 2 or more of the medias listed above).

ATC's should be flat enough to fit inside a protective sleeve, therefore dimensional embellishments should be kept to a minimum. You can buy packs of plastic trading card sleeves, cut individual sleeves from a 9 pocket trading card page, make your own out of paper, a small envelope, plastic baggie, library pocket, etc.

ATC's should have a sturdy backing. You can use cardstock, paper board cut from a cereal or other product packaging, mail flyers, etc.

Do a search on YouTube, Google, or Pinterest for "Artist Trading Cards" & you will find a wealth of information & examples.

Remember...

Never take credit for another person's art. Take time & do your best work. Neatness counts! Please message me if you have any questions regarding ATC's. Thanks for joining & happy swapping!

WHO CAN JOIN: Newbies with a well filled out profile. No recent or unexplained 1's or 3's unless you contact me for discussion. Must not have participated in any "ratings booster" swaps (to make up for bad ratings) within the past year.

I will screen all participants of this swap VERY THOROUGHLY during signup & before partners are assigned, so don't drop out if you see a flaker or someone with poor ratings because they will be removed. If you are not sure that you meet the requirements, have a question concern about the swap or about someone who has signed up please message me privately as I do not check the "Leave a Comment" section below. I always angel my swaps.

Newbie here - hello! For a Type 3 - can it be sent in an envelope if the ATC is flat and not needing any type of box or padded envelope?

Byn0604 07/26/2022 #

@RootedInNatureArt - I'm not the organizer, but maybe I can help with your question. Type 3 swaps just mean that it is something handmade. If it's flat, it can definitely go in a normal envelope. The only thing you need to be mindful of is correct postage. Most handmade items are either very stiff, or slightly uneven and they CAN NOT safely go through the USPS sorting machines. These envelopes will require an additional 30 cent stamp for a non-machinable fee. And if the total weight of the envelope is over an ounce, but under 2 ounces, it requires a 24 cent "additional ounce" stamp.
