Description:

The Tao Te Ching is one of the most influential texts of all time, with Laozi's wisdom inspiring and guiding millions. It is religious, spiritual, philosophical, clever, and -- unlike many books that could be described similarly -- a pure joy to read. The purpose of this swap is to spread some of that joy. You do not need to have prior experience with the text. I've found that a lot of people want to read it, but have never gotten around to it. This is a low pressure way to jump in.

You will send one notecard to one partner. Sender's choice, but try to make it something pretty or delicate if you don't base it on your partner's profile. Write a short kind or motivational note inside. In addition, take a piece of paper (if it's plain, please add some embellishments or decorations for visual interest) and neatly write out one chapter from the Tao Te Ching. It can be one that you really like, or you can pick one at random. Very few chapters exceed 20 lines, and most are much shorter, so please make sure you take your time to make it legible. Fold up and tuck this paper in the notecard, make sure you jot down the swap name and your username somewhere, and send it off!

Here is the full text of The Tao Te Ching for those who need it: https://terebess.hu/english/tao/lau.html. Feel free to use a paper copy if you have one, and be mindful that you may receive a passage from a different translation than yours. Using the Lau translation is not required.

Thanks for reading!
