Description:

I know there are lots of pen pal swaps to choose from, but this one is a little bit different in a fun way. Many people enjoy a hand written letter as it feels so personal, and I agree. But I also love using a typewriter, and since there is no "copy and paste" on a typewriter, I feel it can also be quite personal.

This swap is for those that enjoy using a good old fashioned typewriter for their letters. The letter can be written on a manual or electric typewriter but must NOT be written on a computer and printed.

The envelope can be hand written or typed. Any extras or decoration are up to the sender and not required.

Because this is a Pen Pal Swap, it is obviously a good idea to check your partner's profile to see what you have in common to write about, but this is also NOT specifically required.

Actual Requirements:

1) The letter must be at least a whole front of a piece of typing paper, or A4, double spaced. You can single space if you want to, but must still be a full page. If you chose to double space, go ahead and try to write enough to carry on over to the back (or a second sheet of paper), just to make sure you meet the requirement. You MAY use smaller paper just so long as the length is about the same, for example if you use A5 or 6inx9in letter writing paper, just make sure you use at least 2 full sheets. Same rule applies if you use decorated typing/printer paper, if the margins are huge, then write a little more so your partner feels like you put in the right amount of effort.

2) Please tell your partner just a little bit about your typewriter. The brand, year made, font, special features or quirks etc. If you do not know this information that is OK, but you must tell your partner that so they know you met this requirement to the best of your ability. For example: I found this typewriter in a dumpster and all the brand info and serial number were filed off. I think it might have been stolen by the mob and dumped to hide the evidence....or....This is an Olivetti/Olympia/Royal something-or-other from 19?? that I found in a thrift shop/got from my grandmother/bought from eBay....I'm using a clear swintec electric that was gifted to me when I was in prison...My Royal something-or-other is the same one that famous author used...I buy my ribbon from...

Please Note:

You must rate your partner when you receive your letter. If it was sent on time, and meets the requirements you must rate a 5. Hearts are up to the receiver and replies are also up to the receiver. There are 2 versions of this swap, one USA and one International. If you sign up for both and on the very rare chance you get the same partner, you MUST write 2 separate letters and they must be different with the exception of the info about your typewriter. I am allowing users that have not been rated, but otherwise must have a 4.9 or higher. If need be I will angel if you contact your partner and can not resolve an issue, you leave a 1, and then let me know.

I would be happy to join this swap BUT I haven't owned a typewriter for at least 10 years. I write everything (including novels and poetry) on a MacBook -- I don't join the handwriting only swaps because my handwriting is unreadable and I don't much care.

I understand where you're coming from and think that's good but I will never again own a typewriter just like I'll never again own a fountain pen. But, hey, there's room for everyone on Swap-bot -- hurray.

yep im with June moon on this one . I dont own a typewriter and dont plan on getting one ever again . I must say you are most likely cutting alot of fine people and swappers out with this one . But your swap your rules . Have fun .

I get where you both are coming from, but I'm not trying to exclude anyone, its just the theme for the swap. Sort of like if I was having a "Pen Pals who Love Cats" swap, it wouldn't mean I was excluding dog lovers. Maybe I should have given it a more fun name? I know it is a niche theme, and I don't expect there to be a lot of participants, but it is something I enjoy, so I figured there may be other folks that do too.

I just wanted to say thanks for hosting this, I love the tactile feel of typewritten letters and I don't usually join regular letter-writing swaps because they don't have a hook that excites me, but now I get to bust out my typewriter and I get a typed letter in return? Heck yes, sign me up!

I just want to say I signed up because it gives me a reason to use one of my typewriters, so thank you!

Hello, I wanted to say that the idea of the pan-pall is rather great. For some people, it might be old-fashioned but for real writing geeks this is exactly what they wanted. I was thinking about taking part in this challenge after I will finish my book report. It's a great coincidence because a few days ago I managed to find a great assistant where I managed to buy book report and now I can try this challenge.
