QNT 1930's print BOWTIE dark background

8-16-21 thru 9-10-21

--12โ€ blocks

--this round: 1930's color is receivers choice - with a white background

[In 2019 we did these as scrappy prints, this year we will do 1930's prints)

Each round we will pick a different colored 1930โ€™s print for the bow-tie and use white or tone-on-tone white for the backgrounds. Small to medium sized 1930โ€™s prints are best and try to avoid a lot of dark colors: browns, black, etc.

INSTRUCTIONS:

Step 1: From bow tie fabric, cut two 6.5โ€ squares and two 3โ€ squares; from WHITE (background) fabric, cut two 6.5โ€ squares.

Step 2: Use a ruler and pencil to draw a diagonal line from corner to corner on the wrong side of the small 3โ€ bow tie squares.

Step 3: Place those 3โ€ squares on the corner of a 6.5โ€ WHITE (BACKGROUND) square, right sides together with the raw edges aligned as shown. The ends of the pencil line should touch both sides of the WHITE (BACKGROUND) square.

Step 4: Sew along pencil line, backstitching at beginning and end if desired. Use ruler and rotary cutter to cut off excess fabric, leaving a ยผโ€ seam allowance. Press seams in preferred direction. Step 5: Arrange pieces as shown on picture attached to swap, and sew squares into rows. Press seams and sew rows together. One final press, and your 12โ€ (12.5โ€ unfinished) bow tie block is done!

CLAIFICATION: we will still use the white for the non-1930's print part of our block, but the 1930's print itself can be any color print set on a dark background. I have some pretty 1930's with a black background and another with a navy color too. So the 1930's can be orange flowers with a black background offset with white non-1930's prints. Can't think of a better word to use than background for the white part we always put on these blocks. Hope that helps. i will try to get mine done soon so i can use them as the picture to make it even clearer.
