Description:

Earlier this year dalinda coordinated a wonderful "fabric scrap bag" swap. I'd like to do this swap again.

You will have 1 partner for this swap.

You will send fabric from your stash with approximately 1.5 yards (1.35 meters) of fabric in sizes useful for crafting. No pieces of fabric should be smaller than 6 x 6 inches (15.24 x 15.24 cm). Variety is the spice of life, so strive to mix and match so that the sum total of fabric sent is 1.5 yards (1.35 meters). Fat quarters are acceptable.

Preferences from the previous swap included quilting cotton, apparel cotton, heavyweight cotton and decorator weight cotton. Also acceptable could be poly-cotton blends (Gingham), wool, silk, and corduroy.

Please send a package you would want to receive. Strive to send your partner her preferred fabric preferences as your stash allows (cottons, poly-cotton, wool, silk, corduroy). Feel free to indicate likes and dislikes in the discussion section with regards to colors and print, but remember we are swapping from our current stash. This is a great opportunity to receive something different.

This swap is open to swappers from around the world. Remember that fabric is heavy so shipping costs outside of your country will be higher. If shipping costs are prohibitive please do not sign up.

This swap is open to swappers with a rating of 4.7 or higher with a history of sending out swaps. If you feel your rating reflects an unfair rating by a member, send me a message. The "known bad swappers" list will be consulted. Swappers not meeting these requirements will be removed from the swap prior to partners being assigned.

Remember you will rate your partner based on whether or not you received a package and it met the 1.5 yards (1.35 meters) of fabric requirement. Please post in the discussion section when you have sent your package and when you have received your package.

how much meter is 1.5 yard?

TerryF 04/12/2007 #

1.5 yards = 1.35 metres

Courtney 04/12/2007 #

Thanks Tassy for answering the measurement question!

I originally was going to make this a cotton only swap, but I didn't know if that limitation would turn folks off. I'm happy to revise it to 100% cotton if preferred.

I like quilting cotton, apparel cotton with no stretch, and decorator weight cotton. Thanks!

junemoon 04/12/2007 #

I'm a quilter with a large stash. I love any reason to go through it, picking out stuff to send will be fun -- getting new stuff will be fun-er. I prefer cotton and poly cotton, love fabrics with a bit of gold or silver in the design. Interesting stripes are good too. All colors are just fine.

robotshop 04/15/2007 #

I like polka dots, stripes and cute / kawaii or kitsch prints - i don't mind - cotton or blends are fine!

Ghene 04/19/2007 #

I am not in quilting but would be very interested in receiving cotton canvas for my bag making. As for the prints - repeated patterns or patterns you think boys could also use.

shazzam 04/20/2007 #

I've just "finished" organizing my stash (or most of it) including some fabrics that have been packed away for ... um ... a lot of years ... that I used to make quilts for the first round of my friends who got married. There are a lot of cotton prints of many types ... calico, batik, asian inspired etc. I also have some pincord, flannel, chenille (from vintage bedspreads) and 100% wool which I've felted. I have pieces as small as 4" x 4" and as large as 3 yards. It would be good if people specify their preferences not only for fabric content but colors and size of pieces and variety. This will make it easier for everyone who makes the effort, to send their partner something they will be happy to receive.

For myself, I would like to receive quality fabrics unlike those I already have. I do not need any more that are mostly green. I do not want any blends, cartoon characters, sculls, or logos. I prefer no more batiks I love repro depot type fabrics ... as well as those from super buzzy (just as an example). Vintage and retro are cool ... I prefer brights and primaryish colors to pastels. I would also welcome some brightly colored oil cloth if my partner happens to have some in his?/her stash... or some vintage linens ... teatowels, hankies, tablecloths

sorry about going on for so long ... can't wait to swap :-)

My only request is that if at all possible, I would love some Halloween print fabric. If not, then maybe black, orange or purple. I am working on a Halloween quilt. Cottons are fine, nothing stretchy. But most definitly, something that I could work into a Halloween quilt would be great. Fat quarters are fine also.

ladydy5 04/21/2007 #

I would love to have fat quarters. I make fabric postcards too. I love anything except childrens prints, cartoons, logos. Laces I love as well as some solid colors.

user6217 04/25/2007 #

are we sending one 1.5 yd of fabric or a few pieces.

Craftlover10101 04/26/2007 #

Hi Courtney, I don't see a no smaller than size? Is there a size limit? When some craft some can craft with some small pieces. I'd love to join but I need a little direction on what the smallest piece size can be. I'm not good at explaining what I am trying to say sometimes so. I hope you understands. HeatherS

Courtney 04/26/2007 #

Hi wanderer. You could send a single 1.5 yard cut of fabric if you wanted. I know that I intend to send a variety of fabrics from my stash which would equal 1.5 yards of fabric.

Courtney 04/26/2007 #

HeatherS, last time this did not come up which is why it was not included. I would think I that nothing smaller than 5 x 5 inches or 6 x 6 inches. Do others have an opinion on this?

The sign up deadline for this swap is tomorrow and I'll check those signed up, make modifications as necessary, and assign partners on Saturday morning.

Courtney 04/27/2007 #

I've gone ahead and made the smallest fabric size 6 x 6 inches.

Craftlover10101 04/27/2007 #

Thank You, I had forgotten all about this swap. I just came across it by chance again. lol Well I'm in. I will also be checking out my partner's profile too. Have a nice weekend.

Craftlover10101 04/28/2007 #

Dislike's-I don't have a clue what to do with wool, and it's itchy to me. Sorry

niecedenise 04/28/2007 #

There arent many fabrics i dont use. Plain old 70's polyester is one. I would love if anyone had pieces of velvet or damask at least 4inches square.(I make pincushions) I can use wool and cotton. So i guess thats most everything. But please no childrens print fabric. Oooh i like flannel pieces too. Thanks

Courtney 04/28/2007 #

Good morning everyone! I just revised the participant list and assigned partners as promised. Happy swapping!

user2506 04/28/2007 #

I would love cotton fabric, nothing orange red or yellow, I'm not that keen on purple but anything else would be fine Thanks,

shazzam 04/28/2007 #

I've been assigned a partner who has not commented or provided any indication of what she likes/dislikes ... part of what is fun in a swap is trying to put together a package specifically intended to tickle the recipient's fancy ... not just a random assortment of stuff I don't want. SO ... I'd like to encourage everyone to post a little something specific to this swap and the kinds of fabric they'd like to get. AND, I'd like to ask if the moderator could make this request by email to everyone signed up since folks may not be checking this board. Thanks

user7363 04/28/2007 #

I guess it is time to specify fabric prefernces! I love cottons, quilting or decorator. I really like merimekko (for a style cue). I use a lot of vintage fabrics (and cut up old clothes), too.
I also use wool a lot, so I would be the happy recipient of wool you want to move on. Colors: I love all colors, I really do. I don't seem to have enough yellow fabric, or red. That is not to say I only like the warm tones. I love it all! What I don't really like too much are the kind of really loud cotton prints. Rainbow toned butterlies on turqoise, finding nemo, garish stuff like that. thanks!

Courtney 04/28/2007 #

Sure Sharon, I can do that. Hopefully as everyone receieves the "It's time to start swapping" notification they'll chime in. I also encourage you to send your partner a message or email to ask what she might like.

maltagirl 04/28/2007 #

hi all

I make lots of bags and pin cunshions and dolls and use natural fibers mostly. Cotton, wool, silk and the like. I love the vintage prints and asian inspired fabrics. I too, love the repro depot and supper buzzy but man who wants to pay that much for fabric. Yikes!!! I would like to stay away from the kiddy stuff ( like most everyone else on this swap!)

I love fabric swaps!!!!! one mans cast offs my treasure!

Craftlover10101 04/29/2007 #

If you haven't already sent mine, besides not liking wool, you can check out my profile, I love vintage, country, and victorian.
I also want to thank Courtney for this swap. THANK YOU and what a wonderfully beautiful name lol, one of my twins is Courtney.

Rafasmom 04/30/2007 #

Ok... i haven't written anything yet about my preferences, but have contacted my partner asking her what she would like!

I love anything vintage, small flowers, love orange, pink blue... green... I don't quilt, but have many projects, so, don't worry:)

happy swapping! i am loving this swap, it seems so much fun!

VINCAORCHID 04/30/2007 #
