I was trolling through Pinterest (my image shop of choice) when I discovered someone staring at me intently...it was the Afghan refugee with the penetrating blue-gray eyes...the girl who made the cover of National Geographic all those years ago. And my mind began to work, as it does, and to think of all the amazing "truth telling" women we've seen publicized over the years...not because they wanted to be publicized, but because they were caught in situations beyond their control, but were making the best of things. You know...ladies like the Afghan girl, the dust bowl mama, Ruby Bridges...they are legion. And I think a set of ATCs might be too small a format for these Wonder Women, so I'd like to implement a set of "journal pages" (which can be attached to our regular journals, or used to create a journal about the wonder and the power of "regular" women. This is the first in that series, and I've chosen the Afghan girl. Let's each make a page honoring this lady with the amazing eyes. Do some research to discover how she is living today...you can certainly make that part of your page. There are just a few images of this woman available, so the challenge will be in making something that expresses YOUR feelings about her...and her situation. |
