Description:

Dear Ladies,

For this swap we shall be creating our calling cards, a most essential item for ladies and gentlemen of our era. Ladies’ cards were a modest 3 inches by 2 inches in size and contained one’s name and residence. Cards were used in several ways to announce to polite society of ones whereabouts. The accompanying image to this swap is a card we found beneath the floor boards at our home, it is a bit damaged but still gives a general idea of the appearance of a calling card.

We will make our calling cards for this swap. As stated above, they shall be 3” x 2” and have written or printed upon them the name and address of your character in Amberleigh. Please keep motifs and decorations on your card in keeping with our era. Remember, brighter colours and printed images in colour along with large flourishes were more in keeping with the Victorian Era when printing methods became more advanced; our era embraced simple borders, line drawings and small flourishes. The number of cards you make is up to you as you may want to use them as swapping cards or just swap and collect the cards of your neighbours. We will send one calling card to our partner with a note from our character, perhaps inviting them to tea or to dine.
There is a write up on the blog to give a bit more detail about how and when calling cards were used, please do have a look on the blog. Link to Blog

Apologies for the orientation of the card, I simply could not make it horizontal!

Since the cards are small, do we put the address on the front or on the back. sample : Holly Croft cottage Church St., Amberleigh Village

Always on the front of the card as you see in the example above Pam. The Centre of the front card had the name in a curved script. Then in the bottom Left corner we add our
