R&W: Thankful for the RIGHT TO VOTE!!!

Thanksgiving in the USA is celebrated on the last Thursday of November. Canada celebrates Thanksgiving, the 2nd Monday of October. DO other countries have this holiday? Hmm... Not sure. Please let me know!

I love Thanksgiving - it's a day to stop and think of what we have and to be thankful for what we have in our life. (Well, to ME it's about thinking about what I have to be grateful for - to most it seems to be the day to start binging on Christmas and shopping! :( Not in my family!)

This year has been a challenge, am I right? But we all still have plenty to be thankful for. So I'm going to try a series of swaps here for us to recall what we have to be thankful for in life, and in this past year. This round might be a bit more geared to our US members, but all are welcome to join. This round is being Grateful for the RIGHT TO VOTE! You may have heard, there's a bit of an election this November in the US and lots of people have stuff to say about that. I'm not going for a political debate here, but a reflection about the fact that we HAVE the right to vote. All 3 of my kiddos are over 18 now, so they are all eligible to vote in the election this year. My daughter, especially, has commented about how stressful it feels to make decisions. When I was growing up, my mom talked about my great-aunts who were Suffragettes and waved signs and raised he- heck :) for women to get the right to vote. Everyone seems to have different thoughts and feelings.

In an EMAIL to your partner(s), please talk about your memories of voting. Again, not looking to get political here. More of a reflection about registering to vote, different methods you've used for voting (paper ballot vs electronic vote vs mail in ballot, for example). How old were you when you registered? Did you feel "grown up" when you first voted? Or were you feeling overwhelmed? Have you ever worked an election - either a paid worker or a volunteer? Have you ever stayed up late into the night to watch the election results?
