Description:

I love painted pennies and I love to paint pennies. I have a whole collection of them. They are small enough to keep in a jar so my collection doesn't take up a lot of room and I love how tiny the artwork is. Since you are probably at home with time on your hand, why not try something new!? Here is a challenge that no matter how great a painter you are, you can still do it! I just painted Covid 19 viruses on the back of 2020 pennies! choose a favorite subject and paint on the "tails" side of the penny. We want Lincoln to show and the date so don't paint on that side. I use regular acrylic paint and I sometimes need to paint two layers so that it isn't see thru. have some fun! Oil paint is also really great to use but takes longer to dry. Comic characters, landscapes, pet portrait, favorite flower, pokemon....you name it can be painted on the back of your penny.

  1. find a penny and paint on the back or "tale" side of the penny. it doesn't matter what year unless that is important to you.

  2. pick any subject you want to paint.

3 only paint on one side.

4 wrap you penny so that it doesn't get caught in the mail machine with some kind of card stock .

5 put one painted penny into an envelope and mail to your partner. (of course, if you want to send extra painted pennies that is up to you but only one is required for this swap.)

I always paint multiples of each penny I paint because I find that other people love them and ask me for one...they are really a lot of fun to collect!

Here are the important details. you must have a rating of 4.9 or higher. No ones or threes in the last six months. I will check profiles. Newbies are welcome since I don't mind angeling this swap. Hey, im staying at home with a lot of time on my hands!!! lol

Love love this idea! Did you just use regular acrylic?

desertdoll 04/24/2020 #

Oh my goodness-- how fun is this?!!

SeleneW 04/24/2020 #

I love this idea. I have a couple of questions. My art skill is okay but not high and this would be a new medium for me. Is there a required level of skill for this swap? Do you have any recommended websites or YouTube channels etc on tips for painting pennies?

samjowers 04/24/2020 #

No skill level required just confidence and patience with yourself. Don't be too judgmental and have fun! I do paint the shape in white first so it comes out bright and solid...experiment...it only cost a penny to try something new! Lol I just use acrylic paint from Walmart. But oil paints work as well. Have fun!

And a tiny brush helps!

Prettyexpressions 04/25/2020 #

This is so amazing! I just googled it! I wish i could be this creative!! My hands shake too much šŸ˜ž im definitely watching this!!

SeleneW 04/25/2020 #

@Prettyexpressions You could do a galaxy on a penny! some black, purple in back ground then use a tooth brush to splatter a few little white stars :)

samjowers 04/25/2020 #

So tru on the galaxy, and sun flowers are easy. Green background yellow petals black center. And if they wobble...its just the wind blowing!! Lol I do plan to host some more painted pennies swaps. Join have fun get better as you paint more!

samjowers 05/12/2020 #

That's so funny! I went to a resale shop and found an old cabinet for holding slides ("those little white squares that have transparent pictures ). I bought coin protectors and they fit perfectly. Now, I'm trying to fill it with my new collection!! Lol

samjowers 05/12/2020 #

Dont forget, I have another penny swap up

samjowers 05/13/2020 #

question, would any of you like a themed penny swap and what would the theme be?

bauerdesigns 05/16/2020 #

This is crazy but I was assigned the same swap partners as the last penny swap! LOL!

samjowers 05/21/2020 #

yes, my partner that sends to me is the same as last time...that happens sometimes. It will all work out. I just put up another penny swap. Its a quickie!!

MorgueStudies201 06/ 2/2020 #

So I got epoxy to seal the art also.

I am painting a bunch at a time, sealing them and then paying with them.

Iā€™m obsessed now

samjowers 06/ 6/2020 #

@morguestudies201 For the swaps, you dont need to epoxy them. for instance, i put mine into coin sealers when i get them. for sending them out into the wild...that's a fabulous idea!!
