Description:

I sit at work for a good chunk of the day, a stone's throw from the ocean, but unable to actually go out and see it. I'm so close to a beautiful thing, and yet when I get off work, I'm too tired to go down to enjoy it.

So here's the deal - take at least 10 photos of different things you find beautiful. This could be as simple as taking photos of particularly beautiful flowers, or as complex as taking photos of concepts (i.e. individuality, love, etc - if you go this route please enclose a note explaining what concepts/ideas the photos show). These should be new photos, not photos you already have. You'll send these as 4x6 prints to your partner, along with one beautiful thing from nature, such as a shell, a stone, a feather, etc - it can be either found or bought, which means that things like polished stones do count. Please keep in mind that if you want to send a flower, it should be dried and packaged carefully in order to avoid mold. No one wants to open a moldy package.

Please keep in mind that beauty is in the eye of the camera holder! If you get photos of things that you don't think are beautiful, please remember that someone else obviously did. Everyone's entitled to an opinion, but please rate this swap based on if someone sent you the 10 photos and the 1 thing from nature, not on how beautiful YOU think the photos and item are.

If you have only a digital camera and no printer, you can always go to sites like walmart.com, costco.com, walgreens.com, etc and order your prints through there to pick up at their location in an hour. It's actually a very inexpensive way to do it (I go through Costco and they charge 17 cents per print - cheaper than constantly replacing my printer's ink cartridge). If you print them out yourself, please be sure they're on sturdy paper such as card stock or photo paper.

Newbies, please be sure your profile is completely filled out. Newbies who have not filled out their profiles will be banned, as will anyone with more than one no-send and/or anyone below a 4.5 rating. I reserve the right to ban you if I think you'll turn out to be a no-send. And yes, this is an international swap.

If there's anyone willing to get another set of prints and be an angel if there are any no-sends, please message me and let me know. I refuse to let anyone walk away from this swap without getting something in return. After all, that's not what swapping is about.

Hi all, I have just singned up for this swap but as I am in New Zealand and border control do NOT like natural things coming into the country so please do not send any thing natural. It may be best to leave it out and maybe pop in an extra photo instead. Thanks Angel Faery Kathleen :-)

I am in shock and awe - I haven't really been checking on this over the course of the week, and I'm pleasantly surprised to see 15 people having signed up. Thanks, everyone! I'll arrange swap partners as soon as swap-bot lets me.

Going out the door to put photos in mail to Jennifer in Urbana. Just when I started taking outdoor spring pix weather turned gray, rainy and awful. Fortunately there was a flower show in Macy's with a few awesome things. Jen, I hope you find beauty in them - a great photographer I am not.

I haven't forgotten to send mine out. :) I'll probably end up having to send it out on the due date, but they'll make it.

Jill, I got your package - thank you so much! What wonderful photos, and I love the pin. :)

Everyone, please remember that tomorrow is the last day to send. There are still a lot of "not sent"s on the list.

Mandy--your envelope is on the way from Central Illinois and I am not sure how long it will take to get to Canada.

CalendarGirl--I got your photos. I thought the flower show pics were nice.

Sparrow, what beautiful photos you sent! Thank you so much! I'm going to have a difficult time choosing which ones to display at work on my cubicle walls. They'll provide beautiful views to look at while working.

I got a parcel from crankytiger today. Thank you for the photos and shells. It was interesting to see green photos of California...it looked like Ireland:)

Aerochic -- Your beautiful pictures arrived today, they ARE beautiful, you have a talent for photography. The tree and the wheatfield might inspire art quilts... and thanks for the dragon's blood -- awfully nice dragon if he smells like that!
