Its one 9.5 inch block? Is the material pure cotton? how much allowance is allowed or is the total size 9.5 inches?

ozduchess 12/ 6/2008 #

Ooooh what a great idea. I'm in.

ozduchess 12/ 6/2008 #

Forgot to ask - sender's choice? or see what partner wants?

mythomia 12/ 9/2008 #

The block would have a 1/4 inch seam allowance around the edge. So the picture part of the block would be 9 inches square, centered in the 9.5 inch block.

Perfect Mythomia!

only one block? this will go around for many time... how many swaps are you thinking? Im afraid something happend and then we have a profect half done...

fabriholic 12/10/2008 #

I am gonna keep it going at least a year. If people keep showing a interest we will continue indefinately. If something happens I will do a private swap with you. I understand... I have asked other block groups the same question. I dont just want one or two random squares..I want a quilt. So sign up and I'll take Care of you!

If you feel comfortable with you quilting abilities you can ask your partner what animal preferences they would like. Please give a couple of them so it will be a surprise. You dont have to ask, it's your choice. I am doing another swap with 9 1/2 inch squares and its a great size.

paulavelosa 12/11/2008 #

ok. the true is I never did a quilt... but I love them and I'm confortable in sewing and embroidering. so, I'm joining! let's see how it goes... and if my partner be happy with my work... now is time to search...

I think I will plan on making two of each block I send -- the first will probably be a bit of a practice block [I like paper piecing and have some neat patterns for birds and animals] and if I want to make color or fabaric changes I can on the second to send to my partner. I'll keep the first and at the end of a year can add those to what I receive and have a full bed size quilt which should have a very fun assortment of blocks. I usually donate such quilts to a charity for homeless families. I think this sounds like a great swap and I hope everyone will want to continue through the year ... or more.

Thats neat idea to each time make two blocks - can someone please send me a site for patterns? Still dithering ......

mythomia 12/25/2008 #

@junemoon that's a great idea about making a double (practice) one.

@RachelB I'd be glad to help you find a pattern Can you make it more specific? What level of difficulty, what type of animal? Paper-pieced, pieced or applique? Etc. Can you make it from a picture, or do you need instructions? PM me with info.

I love to help people start piecing quilts, so I'd be happy to help anyone via email.

I would also like to continue this for a year or more.

If you go quilt blocks galore they have appliqued and pieced blocks. I just learned to paper piece and cant stop so mine will be paper pieced. I have several books with patterns also that I can scan and send people. It sounds like most of us want it to continue awhile that is what I hoped for. Also JuneMoon, I also make two of each block so I have one of my own for my quilt. For awhile I kept making these really nice squares and giving them away, so I realized I needed to make 2 one for me and one for my partner! Racheal Thanks for helping people and By the way I just recieved you beautiful Christmas tree block! Gorgeous you do nice work!
