Description:

FF: Series MINI ART QUILT #1 “vintage sewing supplies” USA

March 20 thru April 20, 2018

--one Fabric Fanatics partner

--One MINI ART QUILT displaying at least 4 different vintage sewing supplies, notions, or tools

Suggested items to display/incorporate on your MINI ART QUILT:
tape measure, tracing wheel, snaps, hooks & eyes, vintage buttons, vintage lace, vintage patterns, frogs, bias tape, sew-on decals, beads, and of course you can use vintage fabrics, sewing machine attachment, etc.

I have a large supple of things that folks just don’t use any more when sewing so I thought why not make up a MINI ART QUILT and display some of them – like a time capsule for sewing. This will be one last chance to put these item to good use. Hehehe!

Be creative, do neat work and remember, even though the items need to be vintage do not use things you should have thrown away because they are torn, dirty, or just nasty. Think about it this way when selecting things to display “would I want to receive this item on a project from someone else?”.

MINI ART QUILTS are just that, a miniature quilt that looks like art you can display on a wall. So that means an artistic quilt top, batting and backing assembled and ready to hang.

Attaching “hangers” to the art work is not required, allowed, but not required.

Have fun, and remember questions are welcome, post below and I will respond.

Here are the other MINI ART QUILTS in this series.

--April-May MINI ART QUILT “showers bring flowers”

--June-July MINI AT QUILT “proud to be an American”

--August-September MINI ART QUILT “cook-out concoction”

--October-November MINI ART QUILT “changing leaves”

--December MINI ART QUILT “sender’s choice”

Do you have a suggested size for the finished mini-quilt?

perkl8r 03/ 5/2018 #

Well, on a suggested size for a mini art quilt I would say 8 inches all the way up to 24 inches, I have some that are all sizes in-between. Also they do not have to be square, they can be any shape you want - the clue is "art" so be creative. The only thing to keep in mind is postage and how big of a space will be required to hang it. Best case scenario 8 inches to 12 inches, square or not, you choose.

a member of my art quilt group buys picture frames (either new or from a thrift store) and puts her pieces either in the frame of wraps the quilted piece over the frame. This make the piece strong enough to collage on various items that might weigh down a small quilt. It the art quilt had, say vintage spools or sewing mahine parts, it would make it much easier to mail also.
