Description:

To honor Nancy Zieman for her many sewing/quilting shows over the years on PBS......we will make one of the quilts that she had on one of her shows. It's called the Snowball Quilt.

It's quite easy to make. And can be quite colorful! It takes 4.5 inch squares and 1.5 inch squares.

We will make 6 blocks to send to our partner. Make 3 light square blocks and 3 dark square blocks. The blocks will be 4.5 inch square when finished

Use quality 100% cotton. Your choice of fabric styles....NO SOLIDS only print fabrics. Small prints work best.

This will be an ongoing swap until we have enough for a lap quilt. You can make several blocks ahead if you want because it is your choice of colors.

Is there a non-video version?

barbieloufromKY 01/21/2018 #

@jj9jj I tried to find a written tutorial but didn't have any luck. The middle square is 4.5" .... The four corner squares are 1.5" sewn diagonally then fold on sewn seam and press. Cut off excees fabric in the back of the 1.5" squares. Your finished block should measure 4.5" when finished.

@jj9jj this is a written tutorial for a snowball block....NOT the size that we are doing but it can help to show you how to make the block. http://www.quilterscache.com/S/SnowballBlock.html

Are we looking to do blues and reds like the video or all colors?

barbieloufromKY 02/ 3/2018 #

@Fabricqueen We are doing all colors....

I like making these! I got to use up a lot of perfectly big-enough scraps!

Should the LIGHT squares be solid white? Is white on white ok? or do you want 'light' prints for them too?

I am having so much fun making these blocks. I think my favorite part is picking matching corner squares from lighter or darker similar color/print fabrics, I love how they turn out. If my center is a bright red print, I love finding a white background with tiny red prints for my corners...and on the light centers I love finding darker corner pieces from similar prints or colors...so much fun. I have a stack of them pinned and ready to sew....lots more than are called for by the swap. FUN, FUN, FUN! Thank you @barbieloufromKY for setting this swap up.
