Anti-racism is a positive action taken to oppose racism. For more information, here is a statement from Calgary Anti Racism Education. Anti-racism (to quote from the piece above) is a practice of identifying, challenging, and changing the values, structures and behaviors that perpetuate systemic racism. On a day when the United States celebrates the life of the Rev Dr Martin Luther King, Jr., let's commit to taking some time to dedicate ourselves to an important part of his life mission: actively working to end racism. Art has historically been one way that we can think about our feelings, reactions, and what we hope to challenge or reinforce in the world. In this swap, let's spend 30 minutes thinking about what we can do to be aware of racism and work to eliminate it through our art. Swap guidelines: Make one piece of anti-racist art to send to one partner. Time frame should be around 1 hour to complete (fine to do this 5 minutes at a time, or all at once!). This swap is open to all Swap-bot members in good standing who are rated for ten Type-2 swaps. I will screen swappers to maker sure that they meet requirements. If you do not meet swap criteria, feel free to contact me for a 1:1 swap. I will set up a 30-minute version as well. This is an international swap. Happy to set up a US-only swap or have others set up a similar regional swap :) Interesting article on Alexandra Bell's art reacting to how media coverage reflects racial bias. / Many suggestions and references for antiracist art are presented in this Wikibook. |
