Yet another ZMACS Survey swap!

A polyorama is an optical trick that creates a landscape. There are several interesting versions, but for this particular swap we will stick to the idea of interchangeable cards that can be placed next to each other in any order to create a landscape. The trick is to make sure that the pictures can connect in the foreground, midground and background. A polyorama can be rearranged in very large mathematical numbers of combinations. Here's a modern magnetic one for your refrigerator! Apparently, they are also called myrioramas ... Someone please help me do the math for combinations of only 5 cards ...

The polyorama challenge this time is to make 5 panels the size of two ATCS stacked vertically on top of each other (or 2 1/2 inches wide x 7 inches tall) that can connect in any combination to form a landscape that is blooming, garden-y, flower-y -- heck, you can throw in carnivorous plants, giant Triassic palms, or creepy Titan arum lilies if that is your thing, just make it rather lush and green. Green dinos, lizards, frogs, Godzillas, etc., are optional. Let's give it our best try, knowing that perfection is a bit overrated when it comes to mail art, anyway! Connecting the visual grounds requires a bit of planning and thought, so let's give it a June swap date.

One set of 5 panels that could connect in any order to one partner. Topic: green growing things in a landscape. Any art media that works for the flat (assume most people will use paper or cardstock of some sort) panels. I will angel any unsent swaps. Sense of adventure and humor are vital! Open to all ZMACS members in good standing.

If the consensus is to make an ATC sized myriorama, I am happy to reset the size.

I did this swap way back in June 2007. It was a wonderful swap and the cards I have are still shuffled around by my grandchildren. I would prefer atc size

The link you put for Hive Mind has my cards there with my Flickr user name nani_ani. We did the swap with 3 partners so that we had a great selection of cards to switch around.

Thanks! So cool that we can come back around to it 10 years later :)

I think I like the taller panel, more room to work with, depth-wise.

OK, still open to ideas, keep me posted on your thoughts :)

I have no preference to size but would like to know soon so I can begin. :)

Let's stick with the stated size, unless whisperwings decides to join us, in which case I'd be happy to see if there is some way to accommodate her needs?

I'm just peering in at the moment and what would interest me more than size is final details of making them connect. Are you thinking of everyone working to the same connecting points or each person just making their own individual set 'connectable' in any order ? :)

rngstgstll 04/19/2017 #

Each person making their own set was what I had envisioned for this swap. I liked the idea that you had of exchanging with more than one person, but I was concerned about color and points being uniform. Maybe next time? Sorry that I missed your question before :)

Ugh. I miss this swap deadline by a day... I really wanted to join. Bummer

Thanks so much for joining in. Hope all goes well. Let me know how I can support this swap :)
