Oh boy I had so much fun with the last flat goodie swap I cannot pass this one up!

a gel pen is not flat, lumpy item may tear through an envelope in the postage process, especially if they have to travel overseas. Would a padded envelope be a safer option?

I just sent off a flat goodie envy a couple days ago...I sent collage items, not thinking that I should maybe send some other items... maybe we should put some ideas of flat goodies we would like to receive in the comments? hey this sounds like a terrific idea. but to be fair, i agree with susi. some of us don't really do crafts with fabric and if our partner sends us loads of fabrics it would be pretty useless. how about we generally specify what we want or don't want?

i wouldnt want to receive fabrics or book pages. but the rest are fine by me. i'd would love it even more if they were candies, stationery, gel pens, envelopes, postcards/photos and greeting cards.

btw are cute little notebooks or pads okay?

Girls, of course you can email your partners to check their likes and dislikes. And yes, you can say if you don't want something, but I think we also can't "obligate" people to give us what we want. Let's make like a suggestion, if they can, they will give us what we would like.

I'm not particularly fussy about what I receive: my partner can email me if they want to find out what I like or I'll write some hints below...

Likes: origami paper!! pretty papers, envelopes, stickers, notepads, anything stationary-wise, creative things, drawings, book pages, poetry... etc. Dislikes: not keen on the idea of magazine cut-outs or fabric (as I don't really use fabric at all.)

I'm new to swap-bot, and loving it already, this sounds like an awesome idea... I am already thinking of goodies to pack into an envelope, being from Aus too FLAT is a great thing, keeps costs down :) Worst part is going to be waiting to find out who my partner is so I can taylor their goodies. I think it would be fun to perhaps have two types of flat goodies swaps. One for crafters and collage types and then the other. I'd love all kinds of paper and fabric and images, but I can sure see how a non crafter would be really disappointed at a package like that!

SInce I can't travel the world just yet, seeing new places through photographs is a joy. :) Also - anything I can use as greeting cards and yummy cake recipes are great :D

Woah... I just went to sign up for this swap because it sounded like fun and then started reading all the individual requirements for what to not send and what to send and decided it would be way too much hassle for a simple swap. The title and description are misleading. Sounds easy and fun, but it really isn't. It is more a flat goodie wishlist swap. Wishlist swaps are hard.

Really funny the two comments about this swap being too individualized. The element of surprise is so much better.I also wonder about the 3/4" thing. Do you mean the measurement of the package SHOULD be 3/4 of an inch thick?

Oh I guess I have another guestion lol. I noticed someone else had said there was a list of items sort of like a wish list. Am I understanding this wrong? Even though there is the main list made out by the owner of the swap that doesn't mean we have to have all of those items but if you can come up with it that would be wonderful right? But not to just send 1 or 2 things, like it says 3/4 thick???? I do not have a rating of 4 but oh please I just can't wait to start going through my things. Oh I would just like to add a little something in regards to being a newbie. I see a lot of worried talk on this Swap-bot about ratings and people not getting their swaps from newbies. So if you get me as your swap partner I don't mind waiting for you to get my swap before you send yours so that I can get my ratings started. But please let me know that this is what you will do so that I know when to expect it.

Heather, that would be a great plan and work really well in stopping some of the problems if you had the same partner. The problem that arises is that swap-bot assigns partners at random so who you send to is not the person who sends to you. It kinda goes like this: I send to you, you send to another person and then someone down the list sends to me. That is why sending out and ratings are so important.

Oh my that isn't good. Thank you for letting me know how it works. A friend told me all about this not sure what her name is on here. Just sent her an email asking. I think its a good idea to let the person who your sending to know that they are your partner, stops the worry about weather or not they're going to get something. Then hopefully the person that sends to you lets you know.

Oh I like the surprise of not knowing who's sent it until I get it. Does it usually take this long to get the swaps started? My husband think's I'm crazy, been glued to this puter all day. Waiting to see who I get and to look over their wants, and fav's etc.

LOL, no it doesn't normally take this long. I have stopped by here more than a dozen time (millions) wondering when I will know. I wanted it to go out with boxes tomorrow (Monday), but I don't think it's going to happen. Not sure what to do. Any body else got any ideas?

Are we allowed to talk to our partner through email? I know some want it to be a surprise but I got someone I might have a time doing. No worries I will get it together but there are things she didn't mention that I think she wont want and things she did mention that she didn't want and I would hate to put the other things in there and her not be able to enjoy them. So I'm kinda stuck lol. As soon as I drop my youngest off at school I'm gonna come back and work on it.

Ok I'm new here. This is only my 2nd swap (i'm currently in the newbie swap) but so far no partner has contacted me about swaps and it's making me feel so uneasy. I guess it's what you call newbie paranoia of not receiving anything. lol But really. I'm a bit worried. So I hope my partner can contact me to at least give me some comfort! =D

nylelyn, look in your email, swap bot send you an email with a address that will take you to swap bot for your partner. Also if you go to the top of this page you will see Your Swaps, click that than scroll to the swap you want and it should tell you to click on your swap partner. Or something close to that. Hope this helps.

Just to let my partner know, I am game for surprises. I really think it's fun to let the person putting the package together express themselves in a unique way. I share my swaps with my daughter who is 11. She has input into the packages that go out and she gets to do the offical "unveiling" of packages received (two swaps received so far, very nice!)

Nylelyn, don't be concerned if your partner doesn't contact you. I check the person's profile to see if there are any specific likes or dislikes, and also the discussion on the swap page itself. For example, the person I send to is mostly interested in scrapbooking, so I probably won't send magazine cutouts. I haven't done a huge number of swaps, but no one has ever contacted me ahead of time. I think most people like the surprise element of the swap! Tambo

Ok I sent my package off. Well I went to buy a bigger envelope for the special thing, got to the post office and the special thing wouldn't fit lol. Basically, a week after the day things are supposed to be sent, the option will appear to rate your partner. It should appear as a link on the swap you're rating. So you have to wait a few days for the opportunity to do it.

Nathalie - I got it. I think I got most of it. Um there was a hole in the bottom so I figure that's where the incense disappeared. Next time you might want to tape both the top and bottom seals. Because the top had been opened and closed a couple times looks like. The whole sticky area was dirty. But do not worry I am very happy with it. Like I said I think I got most of it. Very cool! My husband and I were taking the kids to the movies, I was driving and he would hand me an item at a time lol so it was a fun drive to the movies. lol Thank You

Many of us send out very early, as soon as partners were assigned, but Apr 18 is the final send by date, so allow some time for transit :) .

Ola, people don't always come back to the comments section and tell when they have sent or received items. Your package may still arrive in a few days.

Ola, your partner isn't the same as who's sending to you. The person's sending to you are different. The Swap Bot computer picks your partners and you send to who you get as a partner. If you don't send to those on your partner swap and they sent to someone else than they will get nothing from you and will rate you badly. I'm refering back to the message you left on 4/17.
Maybe you can ask Shining Star if she could check to see if your partners have their packages marked as sent. Maybe that will ease your mind a little.

I hope you understand my explanation, I'm not really good at explaining things. Oh and if you are getting from someone over seas it could take 4 to 6 weeks to receive it. I am going through the same problem on another swap. I feel soooo bad that my partner hasn't received her stuff yet, that every time I do a swap over seas now I will spend the extra for it to get there sooner than that. But that's me not everyone. So I have to watch the size of the swaps that I join if they are over seas.

I know it's not a good feeling but give it some time. And again maybe Shining Star can help you out a little by saying weather or not your partners have sent. There are 3 partners I don't think all three would not send. If you don't get something from either of them than I would look into your post office. Because I really think that that would be awfully rare.

life just kind of threw me a curve and i've totally been out of any kind of normal functioning. it's a really long story, and i know it just amounts to nothing but an excuse, but i do hope as i work this weekend and next week to finish my part of these swaps and get them out to their appropriate people that i can sort of redeem myself and still be able to be a part of swapbot. i think it's a really neat and fun place. i hope i haven't totally ruined my chances of staying involved. i don't expect everyone to just forgive and forget, i'll finish my swaps. just once you see i've finished my orphaned swaps, to please maybe give me another chance? thank you for reading this.
