Hello all you SMART crafters!!

I came across this GORGEOUS tutorial on how to make art tiles and I wanted to give it a go and wondered if anyone else was interested.

You will end up with small art tiles (the size I will leave up to you but no smaller than 1" and no larger than 3" but you can have them square or rectangle- the choice is yours).

They can end up being embellishments for your scrapbooking, journal albums or perhaps even be turned into charms for necklaces and bracelets. The choice is up to you.

Watch this TUTORIAL (it is a bit long) but I will break it up into dot points below so that you can come back to the steps required to make these art tiles deep and interesting.

  • Chipboard / Card Board piece
  • Gesso
  • Tissue Paper
  • Stamped background
  • Gesso
  • Stamp or Collage Focal Image
  • Add Sentiment
  • Add Embellishments
  • Ink Edges
  • Add the glaze

*** For the glaze, you can choose to use either glossy accents, or dimensional magic, or thick embossing powder (like UTEE). If you have regular clear embossing powder, it might take 2 or 3 applications to create a thick coat.

  • Find a pretty way (as well as a protective one) of packaging your art tiles.

  • Also, please send a note (introducing yourself if you dont know your partner or a hello note for existing art buddies) to let your partner know how you got on with this project.

I have left PLENTY of time to join and send your tiles (you don't HAVE to leave it till the last day!).

Also, depending on how easy or how hard this is for you, I would say a good number of tiles to send is about 5. I would imagine I will make about 20..it seems very addictive.

Let me know in the comments if 5 is too much and I will adjust according to majority request.

So excited to be hosting this project in such a high calibre group and I cant wait to see what everyone makes (we need to find a way to see everyone's work!! I still say Pinterest).

Happy crafting..xxAmiraInOz

For those people who aren't joining because they don't have glossy accents, dimensional magic, heat gun and clear embossing powder try CLEAR NAIL POLISH

So when the Americans say "chipboard" it's clearly not what someone from the UK thinks of as chipboard. Is it MDF? Is it thick card?

Thick card Helen. We also call it chipboard - it's usually grey coloured

I think this swap sounds amazing and I cannot wait to have a go. I have returned to a previous love of miniatures and will use this technique for my miniature fireplace in my French Provincial farmhouse...thanks guys!

There's a few of us who already have Swap-bot linked in Flickr too. Just saying.

LOVED making these and the look awesome (even if I do say so myself LOL). Take a look at my blog if you want to see but maybe wait for partners first in case you spoil your surprise!

Would love to have this swap repeated.
