I 'rescue' dolls from thrift stores. I can't help it. Some of them are in rough condition and usually naked when I buy them. I usually end up giving them away, but I want to send one to someone. So here's the swap (and someone please host an international version of this and thank you in advance;) Go to your local thrift store and find a doll. A 12" doll-- or see if you can get one cheap online... or rob your kids' collection. My mom used to take my half-balded Barbies all the time, make wigs and clothes for them and give them back to me for Christmas. Wtf. But I still loved them. Lol!!! And here's where you get to participate in learning how to restore old toys... There are sites that tell you how to 'un-wreck' doll hair, remove ink, and etc etc etc. So un-wreck your doll. If you need to make it a wig, check out the fake fur tutorials on youtube. (OMG everything is on there!!!) And DON'T get too distracted by the kitten videos. Make sure you clothe your doll. You can buy some clothes from wherever, or make some, but however you do it, you need to be in tears when you send your new 'child' or best friend off in the mail with a vicious letter about how her new owner had better love her as much as you do;) (NOTE: SHOES ARE OPTIONAL BECAUSE THEY CAN BE A PAIN TO FIND. There are apparently children, monsters, lawn gnomes or whatever that eat these, never to be replaced. We all know it.) Wrap your doll carefully and send with so much love and a little parting ceremony (you can lie about this part,) on time. And I"ll give plenty of time. Sender's choice so you can start when you sign up and before partners are assigned. :) BTW: My mum... everyone say hi cuz she's reading over my shoulder, has already said she wants 'in,' which means she's going to take over my project, but I'll be sending my own work, MUM. BUT she points out that if you have a daughter, aunt, or whoever in your life that is a doll expert, they might enjoy doing this with you;) Just thoughts. So yeah. Questions? Oh... no missing limbs. No chewed hands and feet cuz they are tasty. And if you get one without a face (the paint has come off,) please put the face or a face on. thanks! tell me what you think below;) |
