QnT 2015 HST’s #1 BRIGHT/WHITE #2

June 8, 2015 thru June 27, 2015

Half Square Triangle = 4 1/2” block with one side bright print, one side white print

2 partners each to receive 10 different 4 1/2” HST’s = total 20 HST’s made and sent

Start with two 5” print fabric charms (charms = a square cut of 100% cotton fabric, in this case 5”), one white (print or plain) charm and one bright print charm. Place the two charms right sides together. Using your ruler and a pencil, draw a straight line on the back of the white print from the upper left hand corner down to lower right hand corner. Stitch a scant ¼” seam either side of the pencil line. Cut on the pencil line. Press gently so as not to stretch the block. Trim the dog ears, and then trim the block to 4 1/2 inches using the center seam line as your base. Always trim and press for success.

The goal is to get as many different HST’s as possible but you may send the same set of HST’s to each partner. Be sure to make a set for yourself as well. The brighter the bright side the better.

Note: your white side can be plain white or a white on white print.

Any questions or concerns are welcome, please PM me.

Look out, these blocks can be addictive!

Actually, I hate making them, but I love putting them together into a quilt.

Have just set up a swap for a block using only half-square triangles, so I'll need a lot of these!

Actually I have a lot of HSTs from other things I've made, from 1.5 to 3.5, none this size. EVentually I may do some wild quilt using them in all kinds of sizes. That would be a challenge but might be a way not to go crazy during some snow storm next winter.

@junemoom , I saw a crocheted afghan once that was made of all different sized squares, and fell in love with that idea for a quilt, too. Making them out of all sizes of HSTs would be cool!
