I'm laughing internally at the fact that this is US only. Have fun.

pearlie 09/ 9/2014 #

Laugh all you want too. It's about the cost of postage. I assume those from Mexico could host an identical swap.

kiddomerriweather 09/ 9/2014 #

Unfortunately postage from the US to Mexico can be pretty expensive when sending a package. :(

fireyvalkyrie 09/ 9/2014 #

But its a hespanic holiday lol.. kind of like a Mexico person having a 4th of July one and saying only Mexico..

pennypuppy 09/ 9/2014 #

There are millions of Hispanic heritage in the USA that I am sure will participate :-)

fireyvalkyrie 09/ 9/2014 #

Unfortunately I live in Wisconsin I can't find any of that stuff in the little town I live in so I would love to join this but I can't

fireyvalkyrie 09/ 9/2014 #

oh I'm sure there will I was just saying it sounded funny

pearlie 09/ 9/2014 #

Maybe you haven't heard, but a lot of Mexicans live here too. My family was from Mexico and I live in an area with 57% hispanic. So the holiday has migrated with the people. It's unfair to imply that gringos are ripping off your holiday without knowing who we are.

fireyvalkyrie 09/ 9/2014 #

no disrespect intended

fireyvalkyrie 09/ 9/2014 #

I wasn't being disrespectful I was just saying it sounded funny that Mexico wasn't included but you were being disrespectful early by calling us gringo

pearlie 09/ 9/2014 #

Pretty common to use gringo by definition to mean non hispanic, or anglo saxon. No disrespect intended.

Mesha 09/ 9/2014 #

Just like fireyvalkyrie, I was laughing at the irony of the "US only" requirement, given the nature of the swap. I'm pretty sure we all know and understand that Mexican culture is very present in the US, there's no need to pull up your wiki. Relax, people. You can't even deny it's funny.

lovetherain 09/ 9/2014 #

@Mesha and @fireyvalkyrie Yes, I realize the irony of making this US only. But I did so based on the moderate price value and high international shipping. It was not intended to offend anyone or step on toes. If anyone wants to host an International version, please go ahead. Also, like @pearlie said, there any many Mexican-Americans living here who've brought the holiday with them (and many non-hispanics who've adopted this holiday). Also, @fireyvalkyrie there are lots of stores online such as this where you can purchase items. I've also seen items with sugar skulls and such at Big Lots and Target.

lovetherain 09/ 9/2014 #

Ok, so that settles it. We all agree it is ironic, now we can move on :)

pearlie 09/ 9/2014 #

I have a question on items okay to send. I make many times, as well as several local artists, but I have a lot of supplies related to items made such as skeleton ribbon, Milagros, skull stone beads, and molds for sugar skulls. Can we send baggies of craft supplies too? Food items okay?

lovetherain 09/ 9/2014 #

@pearlie yes supplies are perfectly fine. I was a bit hesitant on food, but I suppose if at least 3 items are non-food than it would be ok to include some edibles. Thanks for asking!

pearlie 09/ 9/2014 #

Cool. I work next to a Mexican bakery, plus I think a woman makes skull sugar cookies at a show I do and just wanted to include a goodie with the package if appropriate. Sorry folks - tamales not included.

fireyvalkyrie 09/ 9/2014 #

Unfortantly i live in a small town no big lots no target...and to order off line would add shipping so my items would be hand made..

fireyvalkyrie 09/ 9/2014 #

Thats why i miss California

Caraty 09/ 9/2014 #

Oh man. if I still lived in southern Arizona... I would join this in a second. We had so many local artist stores with awesome stuff perfect this swap. I'm gonna have to search for some things out here in Texas. Oh and if I join and get @pearlie as my partner, I will be in heaven to receive authentic Mexican baked goods!!! :)

Rabbitfreedom 09/10/2014 #

I am in over my head with swaps, or I would join. I just wanted to let you know that Sugar Skulls are a very popular design being used at the paper store Paper Source. Sorry for the shameless plug, but it is an excellent source and they are all over the US. Have fun with this swap everyone

ladyofunicorns 09/11/2014 #

This is an awesome idea. I might join but will watch for now. Living in northern New Mexico is kinda cool in the respect that it is highly celebrated here so I should be able to find stuff.

Mesha 09/12/2014 #

Figured you ladies might be interested: I saw someone on IG posting Dia de los Muertos things she bought at Target, so that may be a good place to look. Also heard HEB carries lots of these kinda goodies around this time of the year.
