hi i just joined this site and the first swap i logged into was the post cards swap. i know this is dumb but how do i know who i am to post the post cards too.

Now the swap has passed the last day to signup/drop the Swap Co-ordinator (Frogglin) will have the option available to her to 'assign partners' or something similar & it's all done randomly. When you next come on Swap-bot & look at the options in this swap there'll probably be one to see who your partners are.

katerbear44 - A full profile means that the profile you fill out for yourself on Swap Bot must be filled with information about you to an extent that the person sending to you can get a general idea of what you like/what you don't like, etc.

For example, a bad profile would look like: "My name is Kayla. I like blue."

A good profile would be: "My name is Kayla and my favourite colours are blue, pink and orange. I really enjoy stationary, writing, listening to music - I'd love to receive a CD of your favorite music!.."

I hope this makes sense. :D

I read the frequently asked question link but still don't understand, How will I send my 8 postcards does the address get sent to me? or is there a link? For the newbies, once the sign up date has passed (July 28) I'll ask the system to assign partners, you'll get an email letting you know your partners are available, and a link will show on you "My swaps" page.

I can't message my partners, since it hasn't been assigned...

but I'm going out of town in a few days, and I won't be back until August 11th. I'm making the postcards now, and giving it to my mother to send on the 8th (she's the only one I can give it to in the short notice I'm working with). However, my mother has time and time again proven that she's unable to live up to her promises, so I have no idea if it will be sent on time or not.

So I may be late, but will be sent at least the 11th. which is no fun at -all- for this swap.

zavebe, maybe you can take your postcards with you and send them from wherever you are on the 8th? Even if you are in transit, most train stations and airports have letter boxes. :-)

I am excited bout this swap...but as a newbie, I know what naked means with out an envelope so that the card itself gets post marked. I was wondering, though, that when you send postcard do you write something on let...a note or message, or do you leave them blank with just the addresses? Thanks for your time.

I write a message, unless I've designed a card that includes my message in the art itself. Think about what you would prefer to receive - a blank postcard or one that has a personal message to you - and then do that. The Golden Rule works nicely in swaps.

I've started rec'vg 8-8-8 postcards but um, it's not the 8 of August yet. Did I miss the point of this swap? I thought the goal was to have the postal stamped postcard with the date of the 8th of August.

I made mine, and it was a first! lol, I am crossing my fingers that they make it to their destinations in one piece! They are stamped and sitting patiently waiting for Friday to get here so they can start their journey. :)

Well, I have all mine ready. I will stick them in a post box the evening of the 7th. That way they should be postmarked 08-08-08. That will be SO cool. I realize that some people won't be able to do that. I hope I at least get SOME postmarked 08-08-08. I hope the post office doesn't mess up and postmark them on the 9th! I see that some people have already sent out theirs. It does say above that it's okay to mail them earlier if one can't post them on the 8th. I guess we will get what we get! Gosh! I have a friend who works at a mail sorting center and I've asked him to take my cards tonight and PLEASE hold them and be sure they actually get a postmark on the 8th.

I've received a lot of swap-pcs that don't have any postmark, but from talking to postal workers I know those stamps have been scanned and cannot be reused. One of the downsides of technology.

monkeybox, when u log in and view this webpage for the swap, there is a yellow box in the upper right hand corner. in it are several options, click on "see the partners you send to" and all the addresses will pop-up in a new window. hope this helps!

To make sure to get the stamp of 8-8-08 you can ask the post office to hand stamp them if you have time to go there and wait in line. How much does it cost to send an international postcard? I forget?

Mine are the postal box (2 postcards to each person, each set in different mailboxes... I don't want to take any chances!). They will be picked up tomorrow and postmarked 08/08/08!

A postal worker friend took mine and PROMISED they would have a round date stamp for the 8th. I'd be curious to know if my partners can read a date.

Mine are handmade, a sample is posted in my Flickr accountand I brought them to the post office this morning for a hand cancel. I am furious because the postal worker took the cards, put them aside and told me he would get to them later. I protested and asked him to please cancel them now, but he wouldn't.

At the moment I am writing a letter to send to both the postmaster at that particular office and the Postmaster General of the US. I hate the continually poor customer service I get at the post office and today's incident is the last straw.

I just got off the phone with a "customer service" representative for the USPS. Not a productive call. Also filed a formal complaint online. Working on one to mail now, but that one is going to be absolutely perfect so I am not writing it in the heat of the moment.

I just wanted to let me partners know that I mailed out their cards today! I went inside and asked the Postmaster to hand cancel them so the date would be sure to show up! I hope everyone likes their cards! :)

I got to the post office at 5:50 p. m. and the clerk stamped all of the post cards (I'm sending 08/08/08 cards to my children and some other children and friends, too) cheerfully. It's the busiest post office in Louisville (population 700,000) and they're always happy to take whatever time it takes.

I sent mine on the 8th, but had to drop them at a hotel desk in Texas as I was on a business trip and couldn't find a local post office. Hope delivery will still be timely. I didn't know what postage to Canada was so put on two US stamps. If my Canadian parter gets a card with postage due I hope she'll let me know so I can make it up.

I took mine in person on the eighth, but did not realize they were not automaticly hand stamped with the date!!!! (I did not ask, just assumed they would be.) I did casually mention that they were being mailed that day so as to have the 08/08/08 stamp on them, but that does not mean it was done. Having said that, if it got date stamped, it will be the 8th as I took them as approximatly 2PM friday. So, If you get one from me and it is not stamped, please let me know! I was at Disneyland on 08-08-08. I sent all of mine out from there, in the little mailbox on main street. It said that it was serviced by the staff and taken to the Ahaheim post office but I don't know if they will have the 08-08-08 postmark, but I hope so! I got 7 of the 8 and most were postmarked 08/08/08. I sent out 8 on the 8th but have been rated on only 6. I have emailed the other 2 swappers asking if they received and offering to resend if they haven't, but have not heard back from them. Fun swap--thanks to our coordinator for hosting.

I have received 7 out of the 8 cards, mostly with 080808 on them :) I lack 2 ratings but those people haven't logged in since Aug 10 and Aug 12... So they may have received but haven't been here to tell me that.
