Description:

I love Collaborative zines. I have hosted a few on this site and have thoroughly enjoyed the experience!!! For this zine I would like to try something different. You will have up to 6 partners (hopefully at least that many sign up). This zine will be a postcard type zine. It will end up being a 4x6 inch sized zine. You will mail each of your partners a 4x6 sized postcard (sent naked!!!) with writing on the back (next to the mailing address) telling them about whatever theme they have chosen.

If someone chooses to have their zine about Jane Austen quotes- then everyone will send a postcard with a quote on it. For the picture on the front you could print a picture of the English countryside... or a drawing of Jane Austen. Then you would have a little book all about Jane Austen done do different collaborators with stamps and different art, writing, etc.

So..... here's what you do:

1-Join the swap!!!

2- Decide what theme you want your partners to write about on their postcard and you may specify the types of postcards that they send you. (you must be o.k. with a handmade postcard in case you pick a topic that is hard to find as a storebought postcard)

3- In the comments below tell us the theme you have chosen (ex. Poems, Quotes, Recipes, Favorite Vacation spot

4-When partners are assigned you have 3 weeks to get up to 6 postcards bought, made, written on, addressed, stamped and mailed. (if possible, have postcard have something to do with zine topic)

5- When you receive all your postcards in the mail you can:

1- Tape all the fronts together with a cover and make an accordion album zine

OR

2- Tape two together, making 3 stacks of two, and then stack them and add a cover measuring 4x12 and staple. (I will send a few photos of how to do this after partners are assigned). YOU WILL DESIGN YOUR OWN COVER.

6- Any questions..... please ask!!!!

Will you create a place where we can posts photos of our completed zines so we can see everyone's completed work? It would be nice to see what everyone did for their project.

I'm going to call my zine "Remembering" and fill it with: Day of the Dead, cemeteries, funny epitaphs, famous people's graves and locations

Any photos, stories, pictures, art, poetry, quotes, epitaphs etc. that goes along with the topic

NOTHING religious or sad, please! Just happy, cheerful, funny...etc.

Any kind of postcard, homemade or store-bought is great, as long as it's 4 x 6.

Hope this isn't too hard for anyone....

watching for now ;)

My theme is 'Something Strange'. Let's fill it with scary stories, myths, legends, folk tales, pictures of monsters, cryptids, mythological creatures, ghosts, aliens, etc.

True stories and fiction are both welcome, as are any type of card you'd like to send!

To all who have signed up- WELCOME!!!! I love the themes that you have all chosen so far!!!

@midteacher Yes! I will create an account where we can post our pages to share.

For my theme the zine will be called "If I had to live in another time...." For this you will create a postcard (unless of course, you can buy one that depicts this time period) that represents ANOTHER DECADE OR TIME. If you found out that you had to go back in time to another time and be a 20 something year old young lady in THAT time. WHICH DECADE OR TIME WOULD YOU CHOOSE AND WHY. Have the front of the postcard reflect that time and on the other side- explain WHAT TIME YOU CHOSE, WHY YOU CHOSE IT, AND WHAT IT WOULD BE LIKE TO BE A WOMAN AT THAT TIME. EXAMPLES: Victorian Era, Medieval Times, The Dark Ages, The Sixties, The Seventies (PLEASE DON'T PICK ANY DECADE FROM WHEN YOU WERE A TEENAGER OR AFTER)

I think this is just about the coolest, best idea for a swap I have ever seen, and the topics you have all picked are AWESOME. I hope this becomes an on-going thing! I will get back to you on my topic but, I like the way ReaderChris thinks...

I've decided that I would also like my zine to be death themed, but I would like mine to be dark and somber (verses funny)

I don't want to hear anyone's personal stories on how they lost a loved one... but poems, quotes, and epitaphs are all appropriate.

My zine will be called "reflections on mortality"

Mine is going to be "The Language of Flowers". The flower you choose does not have to be your favorite, although I would prefer it to be. If you are able to do your favorite flower, I want to know: 1. The meaning of the flower you choose (http://www.almanac.com/content/meaning-flowers); 2. Why it is your favorite; 3. Any special memories that are attached with it. If you cannot do your favorite flower, I want to know: 1. The meaning of the flower you choose (http://www.almanac.com/content/meaning-flowers); 2. Anything else that you know of about the flower (history, wives tales etc...) ** Note: there are other websites you can go to for the meaning of flowers, I chose this one only because it is simple to follow.

I am expanding to buses and trains to help make the theme broader; they are sort of related and they happen to be favorites of my 3 year old son, who loves to look at pictures of them. Anything you want to write about trains or buses, quotes, haiku, poetry, a story, a personal adventure, a website link that relates to the theme, a doodle or drawing of a bus or train -- all welcomed. I will plan to Contact Paper the zine and look at the pictures with him. I thought that it might be fun to include him in a swap :)

My theme is "brightness"- anything bright/light, cheerful, colourful, eye catching or genius (I.e. bright ideas). Feel free to interpret this however you like; I'm sure there are other ways to talk about the theme that come to mind, so go for it! Should make for an interesting zine I think! :)

chandlerguera 08/23/2013 #

My theme is "Italy." I love the language, art, architecture, Sophia Loren, food and wine. Tell me how you feel about Italy, if you've traveled there, or where you would go on a trip to Italy.

midteacher 08/24/2013 #

Can we go ahead and send PC to the other 2 people who are not our swap partners if we want to?

ReaderChris 08/24/2013 #

I'm with midteacher - I want to send to her and to rngstgstll as well (they're the only two people I didn't get). If you two send me your addresses, I'll make you each a postcard, too!

soyprincesa2 08/27/2013 #

I think that is a great idea. Feel free to send messages to other participants to ask for addresses. I am so happy that you are getting into this zine project!!!! I hope to host a round 2 and get the same folks to sign up (and even more). But this time we can each pick a new topic!
