Description:

This is an international swap.

Last year I ran a series of easy swaps (originally created by DreamHope) called "Lots of Mail - Cheap and Easy" and it was lots of fun. I've decided to try it again, as it seems we need more swaps for new swappers to get their feet wet in and this is a good one for that.

We all love getting a lot of mail, so this is a super-easy, super-cheap way to exchange lots of mail.

Guidelines: Each of your packages should be small and light enough to be sent by regular letter-post, but this is a goal, not a rule. It is important you don't assume your envelope will pass muster with one postage stamp, or that international mail will travel without a customs form. Please check your envelopes with your friendly neighborhood postal employee.

You will be sending one item to each of your 5 partners.

The goal is to find one (1) item from each category and send it to one (1) of your five (5) partners. So, only one item to each partner.

  • Something yellow
  • Something travel related
  • Something earthy
  • Something funny
  • Something cool

The items can be found items, bought items, or things you already own, but should always be something you would like to receive yourself. Remember, keep it light and keep it simple!

Examples of good items: a magazine or newspaper article, a cartoon, a postcard, a note card, a button or bead, a piece of fancy paper, stickers, stamps, a piece of ribbon or fabric, a tea bag, temporary tattoos, a bookmark, a charm, a quote or joke (something non-offensive, of course), a photo, an Artist Trading Card (ATC)...there are lots of possibilities! Please make sure you include both your username and real name, as well as a note about what category the item falls into.

Also, please try to acknowledge receipt of your swaps as soon as possible. It keeps anxiety tamed if senders know their envelopes have arrived.

When it comes time to rate, remember that this is low-expectation swap. Your partner is under no obligation to choose something that suits your profile. As long as you receive something with a note about what category it belongs to, your partner gets a 5.

And please keep in mind that this is an international swap, so some things will take a longer time to arrive. Let's give each other a break and at least try the messaging system before giving out "1" ratings.

New swappers are welcome, but please read Swap-Bot’s FAQs and make sure you have a completed (but that does not mean it has to be long detailed bio and list of loves and hates and what you had for breakfast back on Aug 4 2003...my profile is a good example of complete) profile before joining.

"your friendly neighborhood postal employee"

That made me laugh :D

I am just a little confused. Do we send one item from each group for a total of 5 items to each of our 5 partners OR just 1 item to each of our 5 partners?

PostMuse 05/11/2008 #

One item to each partner. The challenge is in finding an item for each category, not sticking to one category and sending each partner one item from that category.

For example, a bus ticket is a great choice for the "something travel related," but if you send all five of your partners bus tickets, you haven't gotten into the spirit of the swap. Of course, no one will know but you, so you could do that, but it is more fun to find one item for each category :-)

this sounds like a lot of fun. it will be interesting to see which of each category i receive from my partners. i would love to find out how random it ends up being or if one person ends up with 4 or 5 of the same category.

PostMuse 06/18/2008 #

In previous incarnations of this swap (I did all 5 the last time), I've ended up with an average of 3 categories fulfilled. Once I got all the same category... I think it was "purple" and since that was listed as my favorite color in my profile, that's what I got :-) It is fun to see how many categories you get. At least a few people end up with all 5... but back then, the swap would garner about 60-100 participants and was always in the top 10.
