Description:

Ok, I've been watching way too many videos on Your Tube recently of people opening food swaps they've received from other countries. It was weird seeing someone open British food and get excited, but it got me thinking...

Would anyone be interested in exchanging food samples to try?

Here are the rules:

  • You will have one partner

  • Send between 7-10 items (a variety)

  • Check Best before dates

  • Pack substantially enough to minimise breakages.

  • Check your partner's comments below re: allergies/ intolerances.

  • Everything must be sealed in its original packaging.

  • Try to choose at least a couple of local food stuff

The size of the package is up to you. It will depend on the items you purchase.

Here are few examples of what to send:

Coffee

Tea (Box not sachet)

Sweets/ candy

Savoury snacks

Pasta

Noodles

Marmite (Local to UK)

Please remember to check your country and the country in which your parcel is being sent's shipping requirements. Certain foods may be restricted in some countries.

This is a sender's choice, but please observe special dietary requirements when possible. e.g. no salami to a vegetarian. No rye bread to a coeliac etc etc

The total cost will depend on the country in which you live. Food is different prices around the world. As a guide, I'll be spending approx. £10 on all the items, excluding postage.

Please remember to write in the comments box below any allergies you have.

Since this is a big swap, only rated swappers allowed please.

I am vegetarian. Eggs and dairy are fine.

kirstykai 04/22/2013 #

I think a rating requirement (other than just only rates swappers) is needed for this swap especially given the high value in both items and postage.

pne 04/22/2013 #

I agree with @kirstykai . Postage will be fairly expensive for such a parcel, especially if you choose airmal.

snailmailer1 04/23/2013 #

Done. Set at 4.98. Will you be joining @Kirstykai and @pne

snailmailer1 04/25/2013 #

It's looking good so far. USA, Japan, Netherlands, Italy, Germany and UK are already in. I've bought a couple of things already (with long dates of course :)

Jadebear 04/25/2013 #

I'm planning on joining a bit closer to the signup date. Should be fun. To whomever gets me as a partner, please, please look out for the things listed under 'allergies' on my profile. I would like to have fun and not get sick from this swap :)

snailmailer1 04/26/2013 #

@Jadebear My girlfriend is coeliac too, so if I have you as a partner, I know just where to shop for gluten free goodies :)

kirstykai 04/29/2013 #

Yeah I feel much better the rating requirement has increased. Fingers crossed we both get a foreign partner.

snailmailer1 04/30/2013 #

@kirtsykai LOL yeah, it would be a shame if we ended up sending each other Tesco specials ;)

user2637 04/30/2013 #

I get Marmite in California! And Ribena too (only UK people will probably know what that is). Global economy. :) Looks like a fun swap, but I'm wildly hard to please with foods (wheat-free vegan & other things) so I will just watch you all have fun. :)

Mirnyj 05/ 1/2013 #

Please don't send me Marmite, terrible stuff. :'D

snailmailer1 05/ 1/2013 #

@user2637 there's a growing wheat-free, vegan range in our supermarkets. :)

A123987 05/ 4/2013 #

Fingers crossed I'll be able to send by Airsure ( I would like the package to be fully tracked) if not I'll be using DHL)

SchrödingersCat 05/ 8/2013 #

I would love to join, but I'm vegan. Would that be too complicated or is that ok for you?

tanjch 05/ 9/2013 #

i would love to join, but i'm afriad that i don't think i can find 7 items for vegans or other specifics (i can find vegetarian items though)

mara76 05/10/2013 #

If you get me as a partner and you're from America, please, please I want cheetos (on bended knees) LOL.

kirstykai 05/11/2013 #

@mara76 I love Cheetos too. I cannot believe they stopped selling here in the UK. I have withdrawal symptoms :0)

snailmailer1 05/12/2013 #

@schrodingersCat - please feel free to join. :)

snailmailer1 05/12/2013 #

Cheetos aren't available anymore in UK?! I didn't know :(

Welshgirlie 05/13/2013 #

Scottishgirl 08/18/2015 #

Hey i stay in glasgow scorland looking to swap foods with someone

tiffanytyrrell 04/12/2016 #

hi is there anyone still doing this?

LoganAnderson 02/23/2024 #

Hi. There are few things I love more than a great cheese plate, especially if that plate is loaded with Spanish cheese. I know a great online store called Gourmet Food offers you these exotic Spanish gourmet cheeses https://www.gourmetfoodstore.com/cheese-and-butter/spanish-cheese-0802 at bargain prices. If you are a cheese lover, I suggest you save this site.
