Can the penny be one smashed by a train, or are these the designed ones?

I found a great website. It shows where you can find the machines in your area and even shows the designs at each location. Www pennycollector.com Hope this helps :)

Hi Fawn, they are the ones you find in machines at tourist attractions. As usacricket says, pennycollector.com has a list of machines near you. They usually cost 50 cents plus the penny.

Lucky you! Here in Europe we have to pay almost three times as much for a smashed coin (about USD 1,40)!

It definitely depends on the city, here. DC, Dallas and major touristy places are four quarters.

In Australia it costs $2 to smash a penny. Most machines are preloaded with 100% copper blanks instead of pennies. I have discovered a few machines that are preloaded with US pennies. I think that this is rather strange and unfortunately the pennies are not the pre-1982 ones.

I know of 1 machine, the Newport Aquarium in Newport, Ky. that has pre-loaded pennies and are quite expensive. Most of the machines I have been to in the state of Florida, are just 51 cents. Unless it is a quarter machine, (smashed quarters) then they are a dollar a piece.
