Rotunda Rag

I saw these nifty cleaning rags for sale on Anthropologie's web site and thought, "I can make those! Heck, we can swap those!"

Here's what you'll need:

• fabric scraps OR orphaned quilt blocks OR a quilt top you don't mind cutting up
• some thin batting, an old blanket, or flannel
• an old t-shirt
• thread
• walking foot / quilting foot for your sewing machine, if you have one

Here's what you'll do:

• Assemble and piece your fabric scraps into any design you like, in 8" squares - OR cut your orphaned quilt blocks or quilt top into three (3) 8" squares. (See "Note" below regarding size.)
• Cut your batting/flannel/blanket into three (3) 8" squares.
• Cut your old t-shirt into three (3) 8" squares. (Do not use the part of the t-shirt that has an ironed on graphic on it.)
• Layer your pieced block, batting, and t-shirt material, top to bottom, in that order, and pin for stability.
• Draw a circle (approx. 7" diameter) around the block. You can trace around a small plate for accuracy.
• Stitch on the drawn circular line, using your quilting foot.
• Stitch additional spiraled circles inside the 7" circle. (see photo)
• Cut away excess fabric close to outside stitched circle.
• And, you're done!

Send your 3 Rotunda Rags to your partner by the due date.
Rate promptly and accurately.
Communicate if there is a problem.

Remember, we want these to bring a little joy to the task of cleaning, so use fabrics that will make your partner smile. Your t-shirt does NOT have to match your pieced top. These are meant to be free form and fun. :)

Note: You can make your Rotunda Rags larger than described above, if you wish, but 7" is the minimum size to send.
