Description:

I love taking pictures of things, but I love sharing my photography with others even more.

That's why I think it would be fun if we made our own postcards, with our own photography on the front. If you'd like, please share where you took the photo and what inspired you to take it.

The minium of postcards you need to make is 2 for 2 partners (one postcard each). Of course, always shoot for hearts!!! This swap will give you plenty of time (I hope) to make these postcards, but if you need more time, let me know and we'll see if majority rules.

Again, it must be your own photography. We'll have to trust you, but please be honest. Also, you must have zero "no-sends" within the past 3 swaps. I'm pretty nice, so if you have something you feel you don't deserve, let me know. If you don't answer within 48 hours, however, of me PMing you, you're banned. Again, there are excetions to this rule. IF YOU ARE SUSPENDED, YOU ARE BANNED! NO EXCEPTIONS!

Newbies are allowed as long as your profile is completely filled out and you log-in regularly, and it is international.

Angels are always welcome.

And, just FYI:

FAQ's:

1.How do I make a postcard with my photography?

Well, someone said they just put a stamp right on the back of their photo and send it that way. You can also glue your photo to cardstock (which I did for a swap and it worked great, just make sure it's glued on well!) or a 4x6 index card.

2.Do they have to be made on the computer, or can we handmake them?

Either way, it doesn't matter. Whichever is more comfortable to you.

3.Does it have to have a theme?

Nope, no theme required. It doesn't even have to be "anything," abstract photography make awesome postcards too!

4.Can we edit our photography on the computer or otherwise?

Of course! Sometimes a photo looks great on your digital camera, but then you download and...ick. Or, you just want to tweak it. Go for it! After all, it's still yours!!!

5.Envelope or no?

Doesn't matter. It's totally up to you, but I strongly suggest asking your partner. Some people collect stamps, and others like that stuff the PO does to postcards.

6.Do they have to look "professional"?

Well, let's put it this way...mine isn't going to. :-)

I think that's it. If you have any questions, don't hesistate to ask, and have fun!

Cool. I'm working on making lots of these postcards. I should have a good selection to choose from.

GiddyUpSoldier 03/10/2008 #

I don't meet the swap requirements since I'm a reformed bad swapper, but I'll be willing to angel this one. :)

fleasha 03/10/2008 #

wow this is my lucky night. two photography swaps back to back. yay! thanks for coming up with this swap.

ScrapTheSurface 03/11/2008 #

Oh this is awesome.

My niece and I are taking the best black n white photos at present and putting them on postcards, and selling them to raise money for a local Fauna Rehabilitation Centre. We are not keeping any profits at all. Being out of pocket is ok. Being out of their natural surroundings is not ok for these animals. Having to depend on humans for care, is not what the wild animals do naturally.

I will be more than happy to send some of them onto others.

Thank you ever so much for creating this swap.

lizjane86 03/11/2008 #

You're welcome! It sounded like tons of fun, I love postcards, but I also love taking my own pictures :-D I've never done this before, so we'll see how it turns out

Also, someone asked me this, so I'll answer it here too, so if you were wondering, you'll know. You may play with the photo(s) in PhotoShop or whatever to your heart's content, as long as it is your own photography. After all, it's still yours! :-D

Littlelina 03/15/2008 #

Fantastic, what a great idea, photography, postcards and swapping all my 3 favourite things. Good to see lots of people have joined.

Naoya 03/20/2008 #

Do the postcards have to be made on the computer ands tuff? Or can I handmake them with a regular photo and cardstock ect?

lizjane86 03/22/2008 #

You can either make them with a computer or handmake them, it doesn't matter either way :-)

orangefisheh 03/25/2008 #

should we put the postcard in an envelope? that would be better for me since postcards from china have a reputation of never arriving; something to do with the post office not knowing where to look for the address :) (and it'll also protect the picture ;) other than that- I'm in.

anwyn 04/ 3/2008 #

wow with such a long send time i'm in had lots of my own pics made into postcards with moo.com and am loving the chance to send them out. if i could get mine sent to me in envelopes as i collect stamps from around the world that would be great!

anwyn 04/ 3/2008 #

whoops just realised that i'm away for the whole of this period on holiday leaving before th partners are assigned so will have to drop sorry

Suzanne 04/ 5/2008 #

I have to second moo.com postcards! I am in love with their stuff. Just flat-out love.

Cosima 04/ 6/2008 #

Do the postcards have to have the "professional" look like a laminated surface? I wouldn't know how to make this so that I had to have let a professional printer do this and it wouldn't be really "selfmade" and it would be too expensive. I would like to join, but would print myself with an ink jet. Can you tell me if printing on photo paper would help?

Best wishes, Cosima

OlcSylvia 04/ 8/2008 #

I love to join this swap, but due to our vacation, I won't be able to answer PMs or email from April 19th to May 6th.Sylvia

TillyBean 04/ 9/2008 #

I'm in! I've just finished a post card swap and had to make my own as our village has no commercial cards. Looking forward to this as it could be of anything. Thanks for this swap.

craftymama 04/12/2008 #

How do you make your own postcard. I have some fantastic photos, but haven't learned how.

lizjane86 04/14/2008 #

Cosima: Anything goes! This is trying to be "cheap but nice" so you don't have to go all out, I'm using an ink jet printer myself.

craftymama: I'm making mine by printing my photos out "postcard size" and then gluing them on cardboard. On the back, I'll put a white piece of paper so I can write on it, then put a postcard stamp :-) Easy!

Cosima 04/15/2008 #

Thanks for the answer. I am in.

sharylove 04/15/2008 #

I'll volunteer as an angel. Message me if my powers are needed to spread the good! :P

irishdaisies 04/16/2008 #

i love taking photographs and have amased thousands of ireland and donegal in particular. i am currently just picking ones to make into postcards so i'd love to join in.

apurplerat 04/16/2008 #

are we leaving the postcards blank/in an envelope so our partners can use them?

deirdrebeth 04/21/2008 #

This will be my first swap, and I'm really excited. Though I tried to click on the livejournal link and it came up as "no such user"

Hopefully there isn't info I'm gonna need on that page!

ddb

lizjane86 04/23/2008 #

Doesn't matter! You can add a message on your postcard, or leave it blank.

Also, some users like the "junk" on postcards, ie the stamps and such. I do, so I'd ask them if they want it in an envelope or just as a postcard.

I'm slowly learning I need to be more specific on my swaps :P Thanks everyone, though, that's a good thing!

orangefisheh 04/25/2008 #

I'm sorry to say that I'll be moving during this time period and my address will no longer be mine :( I'll have to drop this one.

lizjane86 04/28/2008 #

That's okay, I understand, orangefish. Hope to see you in another swap, even if it's not mine :-D

doublesided 04/30/2008 #

Hi, Im just a newbie to the site, but hopefully you'll allow me to join, I love the idea of this swap!

lizjane86 04/30/2008 #

Go for it, doublesided!

ninanner 05/ 1/2008 #

Just FYI to everyone, I often send photos as postcards. I just put a stamp on the back of the photo (along with address & a note) and send it on it's merry way! I suppose this might not be a good idea to send internationally, but for sending within the US it always works for me just fine ;)

Sometimes I also use double stick tape or a glue stick, and stick the photo onto a 4x6 index card :)

estar23 05/ 2/2008 #

i'm in!

becauseisaidso65 05/ 5/2008 #

This sounds like a lot of un! I'm in! I guess it's time to dust off the old camera - I haven't shot any film for a long time. This is just what I need to get back into it.

Doohickey 05/ 5/2008 #

This is a fantastic swap, I took some great photos today which I can use :)

CADLady 05/10/2008 #

I've signed up for this one, but I'll be supervising my spousal-unit who will actually be executing the photography. He loves his cameras (note the plural) and I've been trying to encourage him to set up a swap profile and participate in the photo swaps. SO, I'M PUTTING MY REPUTATION ON THE LINE and letting him "use me" to make his first photo postcards. TRUST ME, I will watch him like a hawk to ensure he meets the requirements and gets them in the mail on time. AND I WILL DO IT MYSELF if I need to. HE is a good guy, 53, former Navy, and loves Nature Photography best. Contact me via SB message if you get him as your partner and want to know more.

CADLady 05/13/2008 #

ps: I will "angel" if asked (since my spouse is doing the "work" on this swap) and for the record I mostly don't touch a computer (or answer messages!) from Fri thru Sun. I work 40+hrs a week on a computer (4-10hr days!). Thus I try very hard to AVOID them otherwise. :)

pancakegirl0311 05/13/2008 #

Oh neat! I want to join :)

halfwaythere 05/18/2008 #

Sweet, I just got a new camera and printer, so I will get to break them in... well, I broke the camera in the first day... but I get to play...

Does it need to be a straight photograph or can we fluff it up on the computer a bit? either way is good.

lizjane86 05/19/2008 #

halfwaythere, you can do it either way! The photos I'm sending have been edited :)

lizjane86 05/19/2008 #

As long as it's ~yours~. ~You~ took the photo ~yourself~. Anything edited or whatever is just fine :-D

FibreJunky 05/21/2008 #

I just finished a photography course in school, so have some shots I think will be perfect for this. I almost wish the deadline were sooner! Now to scan in those pictures and see what moo can do.

irishdaisies 05/22/2008 #

i'm in for the swap and i'll also angel if needed.

animalchatter 05/26/2008 #

Put me down as an angel too please!

lizjane86 06/ 6/2008 #

Thanks for all the angels! I apperciate it!

spectraldragon 06/ 8/2008 #

Does it have to be a photograph of anything specific or whatever we would like to mail? Thanks :)

daffodilgirl 06/10/2008 #

iS THERE a certain theme or just as long as it is our own work does it not matter what the subject is. when will partners be posted... How do i find out who i will be partners with.. will i get something in my email. I am sorry if it sounds like a silly question but i am very new to swap bot and still learning here. Thanks Miss Ria

Dincha 06/12/2008 #

I so want to join this swap since it seems newbie friendly and i love postcards Muy MUCHO... but i am nervous of somehow messing up.. heheheh

lizjane86 06/13/2008 #

spectraldragon: No, nothing specific, just whatever you want! riacabral1983: No specifics! You'll get an email when you get partners, don't feel bad, we were all new once :) Dincha: You can't do any worse than me, and I always get 5's! hehe

HadarLaufer 06/16/2008 #

an I as something as a newbie? What turns a photograph into a postcard? I mean (Sorry for being ignorant) I take the photo, and...? Thank you

HadarLaufer 06/16/2008 #

Sorry *can *ask

And another question:is the ayn problem with sending these homemade postcards internationally? As I dont live in the US

ginating 06/20/2008 #

So this is my first postcard swap...is someone going to email me the 2 address of the people I'm sending postcards to?

Just curious...it's funny because I just got back my prints (I got some doubles) of pictures I took when I was in Thailand...and there were some amazing shots.

Just let me know what the next step it.

Thanks, Gina

dingoweir 06/21/2008 #

mFreezy 06/30/2008 #

(((...p.s. I may not be able to respond in 2 days...no regular interent access. But i should be on again within a week)))

katerbear44 07/ 1/2008 #

I have a question..... If I were to use photos with a date stamp on the corner would that be ok? I have been taking some gorgeous photos and I leave the date stamp on so I know when I took them.
Please let me know if anyone would mind!!!

Hi, I've been searching for "Postcard" rubber stamps for the backs of postcards and came across this site... saw the swap heading and joined up on the spot! :) So I'm fresh off the boat and looking forward to the swap. Personally I don't mind date stamps...
I'm sometimes away from the computer for up to four or five days at a time. Thanks!

dingoweir 07/ 4/2008 #

I have been busy taking photos to get the right one to use for my swap. this time is going too slow. looking forward to the swap though. cheers Toni

FingersInc 07/ 4/2008 #

My printer died out. So I just took my memory card from my digital camera to my local grocery store. I discovered they have a stand where I can plug it in, and print out my photos. Way cool ! I know WalMart stores have these machines in them also. But I've never used them before. I glued card-stock on the back, just to make it sturdier. Thank you for hosting such a creative swap ! Bring on the partners and send date !

belle 07/ 6/2008 #

How would you put your photography on a postcard? I"m a newbie on swap*bot as well as to the idea of postcard photography. I want to join!

dreamgrlsd 07/ 6/2008 #

I love this swap idea. I love to take pictures of random things I see. I really look forward to this swap!

katerbear44 07/ 7/2008 #

can it be just one photo for your postcard? The display image shows a bunch of different ones for the postcard. Please let me know.

Thanks.

lizjane86 07/ 9/2008 #

belle: Look at the description again, I just edited it to answer your question :D

katerbear44: Yep, mine will only have one picture :D

MommyKnows 07/12/2008 #

For those of you who've asked, and for those who are really getting into this and want to make it a habit... there are specifically POSTCARD backings that just peel and stick to your photos... some even have little graphics on them or go plain... if you'd like to check them out you can get them here: http://www.photopostos.com/

lizjane86 07/12/2008 #

Thanks, MommyKnows!

anwyn 07/14/2008 #

great product mommyknows shame that once again it's in the usa may have to trawl through and see if i can find a shop here in the uk that sells them!

ellie1200 07/15/2008 #

Looks like there are a few stores in the UK that should sell them, anwyn. There's a page on their site that lists foreign markets: http://www.photopostos.com/pages/foreign.html

anwyn 07/16/2008 #

thanks for the msg and the board post will have a look see!

boatingbelle 07/16/2008 #

I've just realised I will not be around for the crucial dates for this swap, Boo Hoo - I would have loved to do this. Maybe there will be another later in the year. Happy swapping!

doublekissable 07/19/2008 #

Can we sign up twice?

user3559 07/24/2008 #

Tell me what an "angel" does??

Lostgirl417 07/24/2008 #

An Angel steps in and sends when someone doesn't get one!

lizjane86 07/25/2008 #

Sorry about that boatingbelle! Thanks for your interest, though!

What do you mean sign up twice, doublekissable?

needlewings 07/25/2008 #

I took some great photos a couple of weeks ago and had Snap Fish print them. I edited with borders and they really look like post cards you could buy! Is this what constitutes hearts or are you thinking more postcards? Personally I think if you do a great job, that would be hearts enough as I put my heart into my work, but I guess everyone thinks differently if they are expecting extras just to give you a heart. Anyway, looking forward to it to see what I get back!

alerias 07/27/2008 #

Hello! I'm new here and I'd love to sharing my own postcards.

Have a nice day!

twobluecrows 07/27/2008 #

doublekissable--Swap-bot only lets you sign up once for each swap.

If you want to do it again, you can make up a swap of your own with the same basic idea--you can write to the original Swap Coordinator to ask if you can copy some of the info to use in yours, as it's considered by many here to be rude to do this without permission.

Cyn

lizjane86 07/28/2008 #

needlewings-- Well, all I can say is that different people give hearts for different reasons :D

doublekissable 07/29/2008 #

I wanted to sign up twice to send/receive more! My son loves getting postcards!

ladydy5 07/30/2008 #

I bet we are all on ready, set and go.....

twobluecrows 08/ 1/2008 #

Just waiting for partners now! :)

dingoweir 08/ 2/2008 #

finished my postcards now waiting for my partners. This is going to be interesting. fun fun fun. cheers Toni

ladydy5 08/ 3/2008 #

August 1st has passed.

user3559 08/ 3/2008 #

My postcards are done and ready to be addressed!

MsAzadi 08/ 3/2008 #

Ok as so many are patiently waiting, and it sounds as if some are a bit confused....here is a website with free (isn't THAT nice!! Free!) postcard templates in pdf form.

http://www.designedlykristi.com/freebies/postcards1.html

There a quite a few choices, and if you click the picture you like, and "save as" in whatever folder you like, you will have that one on your own computer.

If you print it on the general 8x10 (actually 8.5x11) Value Pack cardstock sold by Michaels, you can just glue your pictures to the opposite site and away you go! (I only am suggesting this brand since so many people are located near a Michaels.) Have fun!

user6730 08/ 4/2008 #

Thanks for that link MsAzadi

Kasasha 08/ 4/2008 #

Has anyone contacted the coordinator about assigning partners?

yvonne1968 08/ 4/2008 #

blackbody 08/ 7/2008 #

lizjane86 08/10/2008 #

Thanks for your patience everyone, sorry it took so long. If you didn't get my email, let me know, but partners are assigned! Happy swapping!

gem 08/12/2008 #

Hey there! I marked mine as sent last week, but just today found them stuck down in the bottom of my "out" basket! So I've just unmarked them and they will go out in tomorrow's (WED) mail - sorry 'bout that!

~ gem ~

Simone 08/12/2008 #

\I sent mine yestersday and forgot to click sent

twobluecrows 08/14/2008 #

Hints for making photos into postcards:

print both your photos (you can fit up to three 4x6s on a full sheet) out on glossy photo paper, or glossy "sticker paper"--the kind with adhesive on the backing of full 8.5 x 11 sheets, then just glue them to a pices of cardstock before cutting them out.

If you don't have the adhesive paper, spread liquid or gel acrylic medium, or Yes! Paste, or other paper glue--not white school glue--it will ripple the cardstock, out on the sheet of cardstock edge to edge and attach the sheet of photos. Rub gently to adhere and llet dry completely--like till the next day. Then cut the cards out.

To protect inkjet prints from water there is a great spray called Preserv-it by Krylon. It's stinky when spraying, so use it outside or in a well ventilated area until it's dry, but it works great. It comes in Glossy or Matte finish, too. I get mine in large spray cans from Jerrysartarama though smaller cans are available at Michael's Crafts, too.

I've used acrylic medium brushed onto the inkjet cards, but it leaves streaks when I do it.

Cyn

twobluecrows 08/14/2008 #

krylon sprays at Jerrysartarama

If you're lucky enough to have a Jerry's nearby, you can avoid the shipping charges!

No, I don't work for them, but I buy a lot of great stuff cheap there! ;)

Cyn

anwyn 09/ 2/2008 #

had a small delay in posting my cards but i have msged my partners to let them know.

ninanner 09/ 2/2008 #

I sent mine a couple weeks ago and forgot to mark sent.

Pikaboo 09/ 5/2008 #

I'm a total dork and misread the swap instructions. I sent 2 postcards to each of my partners. I hope they enjoy them!

3genter 11/11/2008 #

Wow - this would have been a great one to participate in.
