EDIT I gave everyone 1 more day to sign up!

What brought me to swap-bot was actually this right here. I had seen a video on youtube of someone explaining how they made their captured fairy jar and I fell in love with it. Finally, I feel comfortable enough to be able to host a swap like this.

You will have one partner (sorry, usa/canada only) in which you will go out and hunt for a fairy and make a little home for her. The home will be GENERALLY the size of a baby food jar, however if your idea fits it it can be as big as a mason jar. (Really though, please no smaller) You will decorate it with as much love and care as you can because well, you're trying to make a home that your fairy will be happy in!

Where you can get your fairy is up to you. Look under the mushroom caps (cut out of a magazine), try for a druid fairy and look up in the branches (use a little figurine) or even catch a dream fairy (draw your own). This swap takes a lot of TIME, EFFORT, and CREATIVE THINKING. You will decorate the cap as well as inside of the jar.

My internet is not running as great as it should so I currently cannot view videos, but I can give you links to websites with images to get you started and motivated. I greatly advise watching youtube for more ideas.

here,

and here,

and if you imagine the wings belonging to a fairy, here

This is a pretty time intensive swap, and it would be really shady to not get one back so I will angel.

Please put effort into these. Your partner has the right to give you a lower rating if you just slap one together. Good luck, and happy hunting!

EDIT It would be nice to include a note/letter explaining where you caught the fairy, her name, etc. As this was not originally included in the description it is not a requirement, but it would be nice! :]

cute idea!

so no smaller then a baby food jar?? I got confused since it talks about a mason jar and then says "no smaller then that please".

= )

blueraven44 05/21/2012 #

Yes, no smaller than a baby food jar.

This is not profile based, right? So we can start now? :)

blueraven44 05/31/2012 #

No not profile based, in fact mine is already made. :] I want to keep it, so I know it's good enough to send out! lol

I couldnt imagine trying to fit a fairy and all the decorations in a baby food jar,lol I have found a 15oz jar is perfect,Taco or bruschetta sauce comes in it. Its wide enough to put all kinds of things in. off to the forest I go,lol

Sounds so fun! I've always wanted to make one of these- I just had never got around to it.

Here's a fun fairy jar video by my favorite artist Suzi Blu! www.youtube.com/watch?v=0Paami1K0IM

Mine's a baby food size, it worked out perfectly for what I was wanting to do with it :]

Netsirfirgal 06/ 2/2012 #

For shipping purposes do we have to use a glass jar?

24Donna 06/ 2/2012 #

Such fun! I made 3 of these last Christmas, I used photo's of my grand daughters for the fairys. Added wings and the girls loved them!

blueraven44 06/ 2/2012 #

No, I suppose they don't have to be glass. It would make it much nicer if you did use it though.

I can't wait...I love to make fairy projects!

kristyrogers 06/ 2/2012 #

started on mine. Will join the next round so I can take my time and work around 80+hr work weeks. Swap is too awesome not to repeat, right?

KateKintail 06/ 4/2012 #

I went on a shopping spree yesterday and bought all the components. I can't wait to start working on it tonight!

KateKintail 06/ 9/2012 #

Mine's half done. I'm finding the hardest part of it to be making it so that the contents will stay put inside the jar while it's in the mail. So I've had to change some of my plans. But it should still be good :-)

blueraven44 06/ 9/2012 #

I had used a lot of hot glue, and then a pair of tweezers to put everything in it's place.

catsandscales 06/20/2012 #

I am having so much FUN with this! I've been collecting dried up twigs & leaves & bark for my Meadow Fairy. =) I hope we do this again, I'm really enjoying it. I'll be finishing mine up tomorrow night to mail on Friday.

Hey, if any of you guys have a flickr or somewhere to post your jars I would love to see the finished jars! I'm planning on posting the great jar I received as well as my own. =)

manfalovesyou 06/21/2012 #

Good idea scales where should we post them?

catsandscales 06/22/2012 #

Here, I made a group on flickr for this & other scene-jar type swaps!

link ahoy!

catsandscales 06/22/2012 #

I just finished mine. It's hard to get a good picture through the glass!
