Description:

In a previous issue of CPS magazine there was a wonderful article about making little birds with positive messages for your studio/creative space. I wanted to make some right away! I haven't yet-but why not do a swap for them?!

I do not have the article in front of me right now..so:

Make 1 (one) little bird for your partner.

I would say they should be about 3"-6" (standard dotee size). I wouldn't go smaller, but bigger would be ok .

Make them doublesided, from paper or fabric or felt-whatever you like to work with. They should be sturdy (so,if paper, for example, use cardboard in between the sides) and have a way to be hung or stood up (as with a small dowel rod ).Due to how unkind the Postal Service can be to our packages-and the fact that this is an International swap-EITHER a ribbon type hanger OR a stick is ok.Maybe ask your partner which they would prefer-or mind NOT having? Give them wings separate from their bodies (not just drawn or printed on),a tail (not necessarily separate or fancy) a beak and eyes-standard bird stuff!

They should bear a positive message/word somewhere (like "creative" or Dream"..).You can stamp, write, print or attach a charm with the word(s).

Go to town on these birds! Bits of lace and ribbons,buttons,beads,etc.,etc.

I am going to make the due dates on this swap pretty far out to give us lots of time to work on them (and get caught up on other projects and sping cleaning!).

I will try to find the article and post a pic.Right now I have to go do laundry!

Here are links to pictures - still looking for the article. I remember it also.

The article is in the Jan/Feb 2012 issue and the above link is from the author/artist's blog, Ann Ellis.

(Sorry, I can't make clicky links!)

Wow!! Thank-you for all the images/patterns! @RyeRye yes! The more basic bird patterns are exactly what I mean! In the article the birds were simple handdrawn shapes;nothing too intricate or perfect. @smmarrty I haven't mastered clicky links, either! :D

So excited to make these.

I love little birds but I hate pithy sayings. Is that a requirement?

RadicalRecrafter 03/16/2012 #

@parttimeliontamer hmm.. would you be ok with just a word on your bird? I know one of the birds above has a "saying" ,but the rest have simple words like "play" and "create". I think the swap itself just states a "word". I was thinking just words-not sayings-myself when I started this swap. You could also request from the person assigned to send to you that they just do one word...?

These little birds look so cute.

Just wanted to remind everyone that their birds can be made with a ribbon hanger of some sort rather than a stick-to make mailing them off much easier! (Maybe leave a small hole for the stick if that would be preferable)Any thoughts-let me know! I just know that the mail service is NOT the best and they are NOT very kind to some of our packages!

I love these! I would love a one word on mine! Thank you.

smmarrty 03/29/2012 #

Thanks, @twobluecrows You have tried to teach me before, maybe twice before, but I can't make my old brain learn this. I will sit down and try it once again, I promise.
