Description:

Here’s a small way to stay green and make a big difference in 2012. Can you challenge yourself to send out most of your swaps this year in envelopes made from recycled materials? Making your own envelopes not only cuts down on the amount of paper in landfills, but it also cuts down on the amount of energy recycling plants have to use to recycle paper because you are recycling at home!

For this swap you will send your partner 5 envelopes made from discarded paper materials. (These can be made from regular sheets of used paper, old calendars, book pages or my favorite; paper bags. Don’t limit yourself!)

Envelopes must be made mailable size. (Feel free to send smaller upcycled envies to put small goods in as extras, but at least 5 must be mailable size.)

Envelopes may not be made from new, deco or printed craft papers (unless they are used craft papers.)

[ Don’t know how to make an envelope? It’s real simple. Just unfold any envelope you have and trace it onto the paper you will be using. Cut it out (using an x-acto blade is helpful) and fold it along the appropriate places using a ruler to hold the crease. Score the edges with a bone folder or the handle of your scissors. Paste it together and press it in a book. Then you’re done!]

Ratings: Participants must have a rating of 4.95 or higher with no recent 3 ratings. (If you have been rated with a 3, please pm before the sign up deadline to see if we can work something out. I know sometimes things happen so just let me know what’s going on. Please pm ME. I will not pm you about a 3 rating. If I do not receive a message from you regarding your 3 before the sign up deadline I will have to drop you from the swap. )

Absolutely NO FLAKERS. It doesn’t matter how old your 1 rating is. I really do not want anyone to be flaked on. It’s no fun.

Newbies are welcome with a filled out profile and at least 2 completed Type 3 swaps!

PM me or post below with any questions. HAPPY SWAPPING!

A tip about turning magazine pages into envelopes. The covers are usually fine on their own. But for the thinner pages (and this could apply to book pages), I tend to glue another piece of paper to the inside before I make it into the envelope. I find this helps to make it sturdier so it will go through the postal machines. You don't want to make a beautiful envelope only to have it be scrunched or ripped when it arrives at its destination.
